The date of the cataclysm

The spellplague has many names as it had affected the entire region. No one knows what caused the disaster. Magic stopped it transference to Toril, but especially in this region. It was if there were a hole ripped in time and space across the planes. The inhabitants of Elturgard had all but abandoned their religious practices and had been overrun by organized crime families. These families gained fame and favor by way of protecting migrants who had repopulated the area. The spellplague was especially dangerous as most of the crops were blessed by followers of Chauntea. This meant that the crops failed across the region and the inhabitants needed to be put on rations. Because this was previously a community made up of farmers and small business owners, there was no standing army to protect them. There were some who became dissatisfied with the orders that came from the government. They didn’t take kindly to having to wait on rations to reach their towns, they began to organize and raid localities and supply storehouses for their own selfish reasons.
