Ilthasu

Let the malleable ears of my foes recoil at the boom of my huaght. By the light of Ilman, and the scourge of the Unshaken, my wrath will unquiver by the dim of our unconquerable star or by the blood of the wretched. Ilthasu will burn once more by my light.
— King Maelos Woodheart
Ilthasu is a subcontinent of Elora, residing entirely in the Western Hemisphere. It borders the Westmaw Ocean to the West and South, The Sea of Fire and Storm Sea to the East, and The North Sea to the North. Although it is considered to be a part of the Eloran Continent, it is physically disconnected by the Red Straights that carve up the historical land bridge between Ilthasu and the Eloran Continent. The subcontinent's climate is characterized by its unusually hot weather due to its relatively close rational proximity to Ilman's Sun, which shines on Ilthasu and the Sea of Fire for the majority of the year.   Ilthasu Is the ancestral homeland of Elves and the root of Senestic Culture in Elora. Millennia of fierce conflict has left four city states of Elven heritage, Kuldor, Eldrak, Dulem and Ta-M, to dominate the politics of Ilthasu and exert varying levels of influence in their respective regions. The Free City of Redhall (Redhall), while not technically on the Ilthasu continent is also a major historical player in Ilthasan politics.

Geography

The area North of the Scorched Peaks--the largest mountain range of the sub continent--is generally rocky, hilly and barren land. The Ember Cape (Ember Peninsula) juts out of Northern Ilthasu. The Ember Cape is almost entirely made up of scorched and desolate rock formations and mountains. Westward, the so called "Wild Lands" of The Gurem Dur flatten out. South of the Scorched Peaks the land becomes much more temperate, characterized by rolling hills of forest, river systems and large alpine lakes. In the mid west of Ilthasu lies The Lost Plains Of Elderath, an extended grassy lowland. Towards the south, the land becomes more mountainous as it splits up into various peninsula and island chains. Most notably the Senestic Peninsula breaks up into thousands of hilly, forested islands.

Climate

The climate of IIlthasu is greatly varied and uniquely exaggerated by Ilman's Sun and the Sea Of Fire. The north regions of Ilthasu are incredibly hot. In the summertime, when Ilman's Star is closest, sun rays scorch the ground. The Ember Cape is almost entirely covered in streaks of black, and the weather is so dry and hot the ground can spark into flames. Similarly, while the Scorched Peaks should be temperate considering their latitude and altitude, they remain similarly barren, actually increasing in heat as altitude increases. However, in the winter the peaks get dramatically cold, down to -50 degrees. The water carried over from the Storm Sea and Westmaw Ocean freeze on the South side of the mountain range, storing enormous volumes of water that flow into south Ilthasu come spring.   Due to the temperature regulation of the Scorched Peaks and the enormous Moonbay Lake, as well as the river systems from the mountains and cool air from the Southmaw, the regions below the Scorched Peaks have considerably more temperate climates. Temperatures begin to parallel regions of similar latitude in Western Elora. However, much like the Storm Sea, this area endures considerable storms year round due to the extreme differences of air temperatures from the Sea of Fire and Westmaw Oceans that mix over Ilthasu. Moving West, the climate becomes more arid as the forested hills give way to the grassy lowlands of The Lost Plains and subsequently the occurrence of storms becomes less frequent as one goes further from the Sea of Fire. The climate gets colder moving into the southern peninsula's, and mountains remain snow-capped year round.
