Warhammer Fan concept: Nippon the oni shogunate
Nippon is a distant island empire located to the east of Cathay, in the Far Sea. It is an independent state of tough peasants and sailors and stern yokai feudal lords.
For reasons that continue to puzzle arcane scholars to this day, the winds of magic blow with great intensity in Nippon, allowing the manifestation of a large number and variety of creatures from the realm of chaos that Nippon humans refer to as yokai. Yōkai are generally more powerful than humans, and because of this, they tend to act arrogantly over mortals. Yōkai also have different values from humans, and when these conflict with each other, they can lead to enmity.
Some yōkai simply avoid humans and the trouble that comes with it; they generally inhabit isolated areas far from human settlements. Others, however, decide to live with humans, living in good harmony or exercising dominance over them.
Many humans consider the most powerful yokai as deities and in Nippon you can find a wide variety of cults and religious beliefs that profess faith to these creatures although the weaker yokai are still held in great respect as divine emissaries or guardian spirits.
