Zoog

The Diminutive Tricksters

The mischievous and dastardly Zoogs are more denizens of the Dreamlands, making their homes in the forests of that mercurial place and in the woods of the material plane. They are marsupials, who look vaguely like bipedal opossums with long prehensile tails and tentacles around their noses. They are the sworn enemies of the Dreamlands Cats, and they are highly protective of their forest home, going so far as to attack any intruders, even if said intruders were simply passing through the forest.

Genetics and Reproduction

Zoogs are marsupials, and as such reproduce like their more normal cousins, like opossums, koalas, and kangaroos. They have a litter of pups that are born underdeveloped, which the females keep in a belly pouch until they are grown enough to survive outside it. The most unusual aspect of this is that the females have two pouches, and they choose about four baby Zoogs to be in their "preferred" pouch, and the rest are delegated to the "off" pouch. This decision dictates that particular Zoog's status in their caste society; Chosen Zoogs are more influential and important than off-pouch Zoogs. Each pouch has exactly four nipples, so there are almost always the same number of Chosen and Off-Pouch Zoogs in a given Zoog Forest.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Zoogs live mostly in the forests of the Dreamlands, though there are a good number of Zoog colonies in Wandrei's forests as well, especially in Arkham Country and Chondalwood.

Zoogs are highly mistrustful of other races, and absolutely hate the Dreamlands Cats. they tend to isolate themselves, and attack most intruders to their forests, though they do not actively make war with other races or nations.
