The Dwarves stumbled upon the process to create fire-forged steel, a near-magical alteration to the normal forging process that allows the metal to channel temperature in one direction. In the case of fire-forged steel, it channels heat away from the user, giving a modicum of protection from heat and fire. The cost of fire-forged steel varies by the item being produced, and fire-forged steel is never sold as raw ingots; the process does not carry its benefits over if reforged.
