The Spire

The Spire is a fortified institution built upon a small, rocky island along the northern Zhathair Isles.

Purpose / Function

Known officially as The Asylum for the Magically Deviant, the Spire served three primary purposes for the Wizard-Princes of the Enclave.
Firstly, and most famously, it was used as a prison to house criminals of notable magic ability that a mundane prison would not be able to contain.
Secondly, the Spire was a mental institution that the Princes of the Enclave maintained for spellcasters who had lost their mind because of various factors. Because individuals would typically maintain their spellcasting abilities despite their impaired reasoning, they were highly dangerous and too powerful for most mental institutions to look after. The Spire officially attempted to cure these individuals where possible, and contain them when not.
Finally, the Spire was used by the Wizard-Princes to hold and study individuals who displayed unusual magical talents or afflictions, ostensibly in hopes of curing them or at worst, dissecting them to study why they possess these talents.
