On a continent dominated by the presence of a huge active volcano in the center, humans have a troubled relationship with both nature and technology. If the extreme heat somehow doesn’t kill a human approaching the volcano, the ruling sentient robots will. In such a harsh world lacking essential social services, humans must be creative. The volcano brings not only destruction, but also a wealth of minerals and energy to be harvested. In the humans’ culture, the pursuit of art and beauty is considered one of the few things that make life here worth living. Though the majority are distrusting of technology, some humans use it to their advantage, causing a rift between these two factions. Meanwhile, the robots face their own existential crisis.
