Chutes and Clatter
In the Council halls of the magisterium and throughout the country of Xanades. People celebrate invention and community in the tradition of Chutes and Cladders. Taking its history from a mage upset about the order of the high council's diet and wanting better for all of their lives. The holiday celebrates ingenious minds looking to make the world a more exciting and kind place for all. Revelries include a feast held at the Council Hall where many mages and citizens gather for delicious treats and hardy proteins. Most often the food is delivered in chutes the first invention honored during the long holiday tradition.
Additionally, throughout the country noble houses, community centers, and guildhalls hold inventor's fairs where young and seasoned minds gather together and exchange ideas about the latest and greatest findings of magical technology. It's often quite rowdy in the fairs so they are lovingly referred to as clatters.
Chutes and Clatters has been going on for over 500 years now and always served as a reminder for Xanadesians that taking care of ones community ensures you are taking care of yourself.
History
In the early days of the Magisterium. The Council's hall had an abundant supply of food however, it lacked interesting flavor and texture as it was magically created and had no artistic technique employed by chefs and cooks. One day a mage by the name of Lillian Phren had enough of the tasteless grey blobs and sought out a legendary chef who had disappeared in the Mountains of Shade years before.
Lillian traveled far, through the curtains of thick fog, thin ice, and wide caverns Lillian would not stop until she found the lost chef. Finally arriving at a small village at the peak of the Mountains, Lillian's stomach grumbled loudly upon smelling the sweet spices and flavors stewing in a pot in the center of the village. Hunching over the pot and stirring it with great care was the chef of legend Endroya Rillger. Lillian and Endroya worked tirelessly to craft a device that could finally make the food of the magisterium more palatable! They crafted a small magical gate that when the bland conjured food passed through took the particles of magic and rewrote its molecular structure into delicious courses of protein, veggies, and deserts ranging in all manner of texture. However, they quickly discovered that the molecular structure would decay rapidly if not eaten quickly. So they tested the speed at which the food entered the gate and found that the faster the blob moved through, the longer the food would remain in its transformed shape. With great joy, Endroya and Lilian celebrated their invention and Lillian set off to the council chambers with the blueprints for the Chute Transformer.
The next week, the Council Hall mages quietly bemoaned their conjured gruel as they gathered together for suppertime. But to their surprise affixed onto every wall facing towards the tables were several Chute Transformers. With servers at the top dumping the grey blobs down the chute through the small blue magic gate onto the table, delicious foods such as Salmon, Chicken Noodle Soup, and candied fruits arrived and were met with jubilant glee from the mages who had never tasted anything quite so delicious before.
Lillian was proud to have improved the magisterium and through the clatter of the great hall where mages toppled over each other to get the last slice of pie, she saw Endroya staring back at her, smiling.
Today Lillian and Endroya's contribution to connecting community through food and magical craft is celebrated in the fashion of Chutes and Clatters. where the greatest minds come together and celebrate invention and community.
