Half-Elves

The Half-Elves are tall, nimble, and clever race of humanoids dwelling through the lands of the Kingdoms of Men. The Half-Elves have a fondness for the open seas, immersing themselves in mischievous adventures, and feeling compelled to a sense of duty. Half-Elves are typically regarded warmly amongst the Kingdoms of Men due to their Elven ancestry. Half-Elves take after the naming traditions of their Human ancestors. However, unlike their Elven ancestors, Half-Elves are capable of growing facial hair.   Half-Elves value loyalty, creativity, and adventure above all things. The Half-Elves typically feel a strong connection to both their Human and Elven heritage and feel a sense of valor in aiding either. The shared acceptance between both the Elves and Human Kingdoms has brought them comfort and prosperity in life.

Dawn of the Half-Elf

Half-Elves came to be during the same time as the Half-Orcs. Many Elves and Humans commingled during the Great Elven Migration and still do to this day. However, the Half-Elves have no greater presence than in Eldâhn Port, or in the Common tongue Elven Port, or Gwaelfell; though they can be found throughout the Kingdoms of Men in abundance and even some in the New Elf Land.   Unlike their Half-Orc counterpart, Half-Elves were welcomed and embraced by the Kingdoms of Men. Where the Half-Orcs were met with repulsion and disgust, Half-Elves were viewed with esteem and respect. It was considered that if a Human were capable of breeding with an Elf they must be of the finest stock. In fact, so highly regarded was a families conception of a Half-Elven child, some families came to nobility simply because of having bred with an Elf.
While many view Half-Elves in esteem for their Elven heritage, some view them as pompous and ignorant believing that Half-Elves consider themselves inherently superior or their fellow Man. Many of these individuals with prejudicial views towards Half-Elves have begun performing acts of violence towards Half-Elves and espousing other racist rhetoric.

The Elven Interpretation of Half-Elves

The same level of esteem and respect the Humans shared for Half-Elves could not be said amongst the Elves. While not viewed disfavor by the Elves, Half-Elves were considered unruly and unaligned with traditional Elven values. This coupled with their shorter lifespan meant Half-Elves simply did not live long enough to gain esteem or climb the rankings of Elven nobility.   All the same, while the Elves have heightened their admittance policy to the Emerald Flame Magi's College in Thaëlhævn to non-Elves, those of Elven descent are still allowed free and open admission. While this decision has caused some disturbance amongst the academic community, the Elves insist their methods of studying are far to time consuming and rigorous for non-elves to complete; claiming that by the time a Human or Dwarf were to be half way through their studies, the Human would be long since dead and the Dwarf on its doorsteps. If the cost were not so great to teach one in the magical arts of the Elves they would keep their doors open. However, with the Elven population dwindling and mortality a newly ordained Elven fate, they must keep seats available to ensure their own kind are allowed to learn their ways before they perish.
