Kün, Avatar of the Sun (Koon)

(a.k.a. Father of the Seelie)

The sun’s radiance once bore a boy in the domain of the gods. His gait was peculiar, his speech incomprehensible—a language of light and heat that no ear could decipher. One day, a man of blinding brilliance, his form shimmering like molten gold, seized the boy and dragged him to the celestial body from which he was born. Without hesitation, he cast the boy into the inferno, a baptism of flame meant to obliterate him from existence and the prying eyes of the divine. But the sun did not destroy him. It scorched and reshaped him, branding its essence into every fiber of his being.

From the blazing heart of the sun, he fell, plummeting through the heavens until his seared form met the harsh air of nothingness and earth devoid of life. As his gaze turned upward, he saw her—cold as the winter, eyes like moon’s edge. Her form, too, was fractured, barely held together by a strings of magic. Their silent understanding bridged the gap of words: she had fallen as well.
— Chaimior's Recollections Vol. 1

Divine Domains

Light
Kun commands the unyielding brilliance of light in all forms granted by the radiance of the Sun. His domain spans radiance, heat, and the raw, searing power of the sun's blaze. A force of overwhelming intensity in Kun's presence; it burns with an authority that knows no equal but also a nuturing hand that guides all in the Seelie Court. His light is both the fire that warms and the blinding searing radiance that burns away at impurities.

Order
Kun governs the High Seelie Court of Summer, where order is both a foundation and a force. His domain of order encompasses structure, growth, and the restraint necessary to wield power responsibly. It is through Kun's authority that the energies of summer flourish in harmony, tempered by discipline and directed purpose. His rule binds the court in unbreakable unity, shaping the wild energies of the fey into a force of creation and strength.

Vibrance
In the Low Seelie Court of Spring, Kun embodies vibrance—an unrestrained vitality that dances on the edge of mischief. This domain is alive with color, playfulness, and spontaneity, where even the most mischievous acts are bound by a natural rhythm. Kun's vibrance is the pulse of life in its most exuberant form, igniting joy and revelry wherever his influence spreads.

Dominion

Kun’s dominion is absolute within the domains he embodies. While other deities may hold sway over aspects of illumination, none can rival the pure, direct blaze of the sun itself. Kun's light is not merely a symbol of clarity and warmth but a force that defines the rhythm of life, bringing both creation and destruction in ways other deities of light can't truly compare.
Within the domain of Order, Kun’s authority is unchallenged in the High Seelie Court of Summer. The laws and structures that govern this court are an extension of his power, ensuring stability and discipline within the Feywild’s most radiant season. No external influence can impose its will upon the High Court without first contending with the unyielding force of Kun’s order. Similarly, in the Low Seelie Court of Spring, his dominion of Vibrance manifests as unrestrained vitality and playful energy. While others may contribute to the domain of playfulness, Kun’s vibrant influence directs the joyous chaos of spring, ensuring it flourishes within its natural boundaries.

Conflicts

Kun’s domains are often a point of contention for deities and beings attempting to exert influence within the Feywild. His Order stands as a barrier to those seeking to disrupt the balance of the High Seelie Court. Any deity or power that attempts to manipulate the Fey courts must first contend with the rigid laws Kun enforces. Such interference meets the blazing resistance of his Light, a force capable of incinerating even the most intricate of plots before they can take root.
Similarly, the mischievous nature of the Low Seelie Court is protected by Kun’s Vibrance. While the court itself may revel in chaos and play, any attempt to twist this vibrance into something harmful or unbalanced is met with the swift reassertion of Kun’s authority. These conflicts are not frequent, but when they arise, they underscore the unyielding nature of Kun’s presence in the Feywild.

Relationships with Other Domains

Kun’s relationship with Lhyla, Avatar of the Moon, is one of intricate interplay rather than direct opposition. Their domains of light and darkness weave seamlessly through the Feywild, particularly within the Seelie and Unseelie courts. Where Kun’s domain waxes, bringing the height of day and the warmth of summer, Lhyla’s wanes, casting shadows and coolness upon the land. Together, they form a harmonious balance, each retreating to allow the other their time of influence over the fey realms.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The Solar Crest

The Solar Crest is the most prominent symbol associated with Kun. It depicts a radiant flaring sun, often with concentric rings symbolizing the cyclical nature of his influence. The Solar Crest is displayed in High Seelie Court ceremonies, carved into the thrones of Fey nobles, and used as a sigil for banners, flags, and cloting. It is a universal mark of his dominance and guidance in the Feywild, representing his unyielding presence during the height of the sun's power.

The Gilded Laurel

A Gilded Laurel—crafted from golden leaves—is often worn by Fey who serve in Kun’s High Court. This symbol signifies leadership, growth, and the disciplined harmony of the Seelie under his domain of Order. These laurels are often blessed during peak solar events, imbuing them with protective and empowering energies. Worn during major court assemblies, they highlight the wearer’s commitment to Kun’s structured rule.

The Golden Stag

The Golden Stag is a revered symbol tied to Kun’s domain of vibrance and vitality. Legends speak of a magnificent stag that appears during the Flourish of Seelie, its antlers glowing with the brilliance of the sun. The stag is a beacon of energy and life, its presence signifying a time of prosperity and joy. Fey who glimpse the Golden Stag pursue it as the ultimate mark, any managing to catch and touch the beast are blessed with Kun's grace.

The Sunflower Sigil

Sunflowers hold a sacred place in Kun’s domain, rumored to be the souls of lost Feywild denizens who passed away on the Prime Material Plane. These flowers eternally face the sun, seeking its guidance and warmth. The Sunflower Sigil is used in rites of remembrance and renewal, symbolizing the unbroken connection between the Feywild and its lost kin. Fey communities often cultivate sunflower fields near their settlements, believing these blooms carry the blessings of Kun wherever they may be, guiding them toward growth and prosperity.

Solar Eclipses

Solar eclipses in the Feywild are rare and profound occurrences, signaling a moment when the Unseelie Courts rise against the dominance of the Seelie Court. This phenomenon takes place during periods when the Flourish of the Sun lingers beyond its natural duration or in times of mounting conflict. In such moments, Lhyla, Avatar of the Moon, exerts her influence to strip Kun’s radiance temporarily from the Feywild, a protective intervention meant to rebalance the courts. During a solar eclipse, the Unseelie Courts gain strength, reaching their fullest power regardless of the current cycle, while Seelie power weakens dramatically. The fey see eclipses as a sign of cosmic negotiation, one that warns both courts to remember the tenuous balance that binds them.

Twin Lights

Known among the faithful as Twin Lights, these radiant doubles of the sun appear as Kun’s symbolic warriors, shimmering on either side of his domain. In the Feywild and the Prime Material Plane, the Twin Lights foretell significant upheaval, where Kun’s influence actively pressures disturbances toward resolution. Followers regard these lights as a potent sign to adhere closely to Kun’s tenets, as they believe ignoring this omen invites Kun’s wrath. Many await the arrival of the Twin Lights in times of illness, oppression, or existential danger, hoping that this phenomenon will purify or shield them. It is said that the Twin Lights appear only when Kun himself is calling his faithful to action, demanding vigilance and reverence.

The Sun Halo

A Sun Halo is a ring of ethereal light that circles the sun, a sign that Kun’s presence is near. To his followers, the Sun Halo is an unmistakable harbinger of Kun’s arrival on the Prime Material Plane. The appearance of this halo could herald an incarnation of Kun himself, or it may signify an indirect manifestation, such as an increase in the power of his faithful or an extended period of daylight. To witness a Sun Halo is to witness a cosmic announcement that Kun’s presence will soon be felt, in whatever form he chooses to take. Many take the sight of a Sun Halo as a time for preparation, aligning their lives and actions closely with his tenets, awaiting his coming influence.

Heatwaves

Heatwaves are seen by Kun’s faithful as a direct punishment for those who have disrespected the sun’s radiance. In the Prime Material Plane, prolonged periods of intense heat are interpreted as Kun’s way of chastising the unworthy. His believers warn against straying from his tenets during such times, as they believe the heat serves as a reminder of his dominance and an invitation to realign with his principles. For the devout, heatwaves are also opportunities for reflection and acts of devotion, seeking to appease Kun and restore balance through offerings and public adherence to his teachings.

Tenets of Faith

Strength in Discipline

Power without control is chaos. Kun’s first tenet emphasizes the importance of discipline in all aspects of life. Whether through mastery of craft, governance, or personal growth, restraint and structure are essential to harnessing one’s true potential. Those who live by this tenet find purpose not in their strength alone but in how it is wielded for the benefit of their community and themselves.

Honor Through Guidance

As the sun nurtures life, so too must those who follow Kun provide guidance and support to others. Leadership is not domination but the ability to uplift and protect. This tenet speaks to the importance of mentorship and stewardship, reminding followers that true authority comes from the respect earned by fostering the growth and well-being of others.

Balance of Vibrance and Restraint

Life is both serious and playful. Kun’s philosophy does not seek to stifle joy or mischief but to integrate it within the framework of balance. In the Low Seelie Court of Spring, vibrance manifests in celebration and exploration, but even this is tempered by respect for the natural order. Followers of Kun are encouraged to embrace life’s pleasures while remaining grounded in their responsibilities.

Strength in Action

Kun’s light is never passive; it is a force of nature that inspires movement and purpose. This tenet emphasizes the value of decisiveness and the importance of acting with conviction. Followers are taught that hesitation leads to stagnation, while bold action drives progress and growth. Whether in battle, leadership, or personal endeavors, action is the vessel through which strength manifests.

Guidance Through Presence

Kun’s presence is a constant in the Feywild, bringing warmth and illumination wherever it touches. Followers are encouraged to be pillars of support and stability for their communities, not through words or distant oversight but by being present and engaged. True leadership, under Kun’s philosophy, comes from walking alongside those you guide, providing both direction and protection through shared experiences.

Resilience Against Adversity

The final tenet is a reminder of the sun’s enduring presence, even beyond the clouds. Followers of Kun are taught to remain steadfast in the face of challenges, drawing on inner strength and perseverance. This resilience is not only physical but also emotional and spiritual, embodying the unyielding light that Kun represents, even during the darkest times.

Holidays

The Flourish of Seelie marks the peak of Kun’s power in the Feywild, a moment when the sun’s influence reaches its zenith. This celestial event heralds a time of unbridled celebration across the Seelie Courts. It is the pinnacle of light and vibrance, with the High and Low Seelie Courts each embracing the occasion in their own distinct ways. While the Seelie revel, the Unseelie Courts enter a period of weakness, retreating into the farthest reaches of the Feywild to escape the overwhelming dominance of Kun’s radiance.

High Seelie Court Celebration

In the High Seelie Court of Summer, the Flourish is observed with grand ceremonies and structured festivities. Lavish feasts, intricate dances, and displays of power highlight the court’s disciplined vibrance. Nobles of the court gather to reaffirm their loyalty to Kun’s order, weaving their collective strength into the Feywild’s very fabric. This celebration is as much a demonstration of unity as it is of joy, embodying the court’s commitment to structure and growth.

Low Seelie Court Celebration

The Low Seelie Court of Spring embraces the Flourish with a more chaotic exuberance. Merriment spills across the fey landscape in unrestrained joy—wild games, mischievous pranks, and spontaneous revelry dominate the court’s festivities. Here, the Flourish is a time to honor life’s vibrance, embracing the playful and unrefined aspects of Kun’s influence. While the High Court revels in order, the Low Court celebrates freedom and spontaneity, both essential components of Seelie vibrance.

Unseelie Retreat

During the Flourish, the Unseelie Courts experience their weakest phase. The overwhelming power of Kun forces the Unseelie to withdraw into the darkest corners of the Feywild, their domains shrouded in shadow and silence. This retreat is a survival mechanism, a temporary surrender to Kun’s dominance. In times of balance, the Flourish may last only a day, a brief yet powerful reminder of the cyclical nature of fey influence. However, during periods of conflict, Kun can extend the Flourish, using its prolonged intensity to suppress the Unseelie and consolidate Seelie power, destabilizing the Unseelie Courts and the balance of the Feywild for selfish gain. Though this hasn't been done in many an elf's lifespan

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Divine Goals

Kun’s purpose is intrinsically tied to the cyclical dominance of the Seelie and Unseelie Courts within the Feywild. As the Avatar of the Sun, his role is to guide and stabilize the Seelie Courts during their Waning phase, where his power peaks and gradually recedes, making way for the Moon’s rise. This process defines the balance of power between the Seelie and Unseelie, ensuring that neither remains dominant indefinitely, preserving the Feywild’s eternal harmony.

The Waxing Sun and Waning Moon

During the Waxing Sun, Kun’s energy builds, infusing the Feywild with warmth, vibrance, and growth. This phase is characterized by flourishing life, heightened activity within the Seelie Courts, and an overall sense of harmony. Fey creatures bask in the Sun’s influence, their magic and vitality amplified as they prepare for the peak of Kun’s reign. The High Seelie Court of Summer, in particular, reaches its zenith, enforcing order and discipline to sustain the energy flow.

However, once the Sun peaks, it transitions into the Waning Sun. This is the dominant phase, where Kun’s light reverberates across the Feywild, consolidating the energy and influence amassed during his Waxing phase. The Seelie Courts remain powerful, but the waning signifies a shift—the Feywild begins to settle, anticipating the Moon’s rise. The Low Seelie Court embraces this with unrestrained revelry, marking the gradual transfer of vibrance to the waxing Moon.

The Waning Moon and Waxing Sun

As the Moon waxes, the Unseelie Courts grow in strength. The Feywild begins to cool, shadows deepen, and mischief turns more sinister. The Sun, now waxing in preparation for its next reign, recedes in influence, its warmth and radiance stored for future dominance. During this phase, Kun adopts a guiding role, ensuring the Seelie Courts adapt and endure as their influence wanes. This is a time of introspection, reflection, and conservation for Seelie creatures, who prepare for the eventual return of their solar strength.

Manifestations in the Feywild

The shift between these phases is deeply felt throughout the Feywild. During the Waning Sun, the landscape itself seems to glow, with flora and fauna radiating vitality. Rivers run faster, forests grow denser, and the Feywild teems with vibrant life. Seelie magic is at its most potent, bending reality to celebrate the Sun’s reign.
