King
The ruler of a country, the title of king is passed down generally to the first male heir. The only times that kingship moves out of a family name is when, the king is upsurped, or they have no heirs and appoint somebody to be their heir. If his only heir is a daughter she will become the queen of the country and rule as she will, only having a regent until they reach age 18. The same is true if the only heir is a boy under the age of 18 who becomes king.
Requirements
Has to be related to somebody of royal blood, except in the case of a coup. But then whoever takes power beacomes the new royal blood. Or another case is an apponted heir not of the royal family, in which case they're the new royal blood.
Appointment
Kings are coronated by the High Priest of the Elvish Pantheon (the offical kingdoms religion).

To control the kingdom and keep it stable and the citizens of it safe.

The only way to remove the king from power is a coup/revolution and taking the crown by force, or having the king surrender power.
