Orange Crowns

Orange Crowns are a type of mushroom found in underground areas, and are common in the Subplat. These fungus are burnt orange/bronze in color, have a stalk .5in thick and 2-4in tall, with a cap formed in an upwards bowl shape with a bumpy edge. Due to its color and the resemblance of the cap to a sterotypical crown, the name Orange Crown was given. They are edible in their raw form, but if exposed to flame, they can have mind-altering effects.
Orange Crowns are more resistant to environmental conditions than most fungi. While most require dark, dank areas, wet areas, or decomposing organic matter, orange crowns grow fine in dry areas that other plants would struggle. The populated tunnels of the Subplat usually have orange crowns growing in corners or by the ceiling, and they can even be found on the openings to exteriors where direct sunlight hits them.
Citizens of Yundivar eat these these as standalone snacks or as parts of dishes. Olive oil-soaked sliced crowns are a common dish. They are known to have a salty taste and are quite nutritionous. Their ability to grow rapidly makes them ideal for sustainable food.
While delectible, Orange Crowns can be dangerous. When exposed to flame, certain enzymes break down and release potent fumes. They smell very sweet, and are not deadly but do have adverse effects. If exposed, a person can experience confusion, disorientation, dizziness, and if continous exposer occurs, hallucinations. Recreational use does occur for halluinations, but the sickness that follows dissaudes most. Affected users have extreme nasua and headaches for 1-3 days after being exposed.
Weaponized Fungus
Various groups have tried to harness the psychological impacts of Orange Crown fumes for combative purposes. While many different methods were tried, notably the "Flaming Crown Arrows", the projects were deemed too difficult and not practical.
