Vild'Thorel

"We crossed through the fertile farmland and onto the bridge covering the mile-wide river. From our perch on this bridge, I could see even more farmland for miles and a bustling river port. Ahead of us, we saw the tips of the Imperial Palace in the far distance. Its height was perhaps rivaled only by the towering Skyport, which had several sky ships docked. We were granted swift entry into the southern gate and had the endless possibilities of the Grand Sprawl before us. We had arrived in Vild'Thorel." -Alexander Remington, Adventures of a Nobleman

Defences

Most of the city is surrounded by thick walls, as are most of the districts. Guards patrol the streets inside the walls and the bulk of the Thorellian Army trains in the Military District. A fleet is also kept at the ready in the port should any invaders which to sail up the river to attack this great city.

Infrastructure

Ports

The city boasts two ports along the Donvia River which it uses for trade, travel, and recreation.

Bridges

The Donvia River is crossed in two places by tall bridges that allow for ships to pass under. Designed by a joint team of Gnomes and Dwarves, these two mighty bridges may just outlast the city itself.

Sewers

The city has a vast sewer network running beneath most of it. While this helps keep the city clean, it also provides a breeding ground for unsavory gangs of cutthroats, smugglers, and other criminals.

Roads

The roads in the city are wide enough and have enough alleyways to allow for its crowded population to navigate alongside wagons and carriages. They are well maintained in most areas, the most notable exceptions being the roads in the Slums... if you could even call them roads.

Skyport

The Skyport serves as an identifying landmark of the city. Buttressed up against the walls of the Sommet du Nuage, it climbs into the sky and invites wealthy travelers from the world over to come and enjoy the city.

World Link

This beautiful pyramid of blue sapphire stands tall in the college district, radiating magical energy. It is heavily guarded, for it contains teleportation circles leading to and from nearly every major city in the world. World leaders, approved mages, and certain council members are allowed to use this sprawling travel nexus. Revered members of society are occasionally allowed to use it for a price.

Guilds and Factions

The Adventurers League

A group seeking to organize adventurers across the continent to embark on crusades for the common good.

The Phoenix Corps

A mercenary company formed after the fall of the Blackhawk Mercenary Company. While many mercenary bands rose up to fill the power vacuum left by the Blackhawks, the Phoenix Corps is perhaps the largest and most powerful.

Ther Merchant Guild

A cabal of traders, merchants, and businessmen of the Empire.

Nightwalkers Guild

A guild for certified prostitutes. It provides a safe, legal way for people to sate their carnal desires. The guild also provides support and protection for those suffering abuse.

Trade Alliance

A mega-guild of different artisans from around the Empire.

Farmers Guild

Unsurprisingly, a guild for farmers.

Artists Guild

An organization for artists of all types. Holds a yearly festival for the citizens of the Empire to show off their artistic talents to the Royal Family.

Labor Guild

A union of sorts for the unskilled laborers of the Empire.

The Wretched

A gang rumored to run the organized crime world.

The Clasp

An upstart splinter group of the Wretched. Fighting between the two groups has begun to spill into the public view.

Geography

The city is settled along plains next to the Donvia River. The Sommet du Nuage rests upon a hill in the center of the city.

City Districts

Sommet du Nuage

In the center of Vild'Thorel, atop a large hill, sits the Sommet du Nuage. The common folk of Vild'Thorel hardly use that name, though, preferring names such as The Cloudtop, The Centre, or the Government District.
