Early Life
Sildar Hallwinter was born in the frontier city of Norrest. He grew up idolizing the Imperial soldiers and war mages that inhabited the military district of the city, and so much of his free time was spent reading military history, playing war games with his friends, or watching the soldiers train. As soon as he was old enough he earned a scholarship to the Imperial War College in Vild'Thorel and joined the Légion Platine.Mid Life
When Hallwinter graduated from the War College he returned to Norrest to be a member of the first group of Imperial Griffon riders. He spent most of his career leading retaliatory raids into the orc lands of Kyligtera and scouting the forests to the east of the Empire. When the Empire negotiated the annexation of Kyligtera, Hallwinter was called to fight in the resulting Kyligteran Civil War. Little by little, the griffons and their riders were captured or killed by the rebellious followers of Gruumsh until Hallwinter was the sole survivor. He finally lost his griffon during the brutal Battle of Flodfor when an orcish javelin pierced its heart and sent them both tumbling to the ground. He was surrounded by orcs but managed to fight them off until Imperial troops arrived, though he lost his left eye during the skirmish. He would retire from the military as a hero shortly thereafter and return home to Norrest.Later Life
It would not be long before Hallwinter desired to wield a blade again. He took up adventuring and eventually began to travel with a group known as The Coin Coalition, a band of people with a love for fighting and pocketing gold. After awhile of adventuring he decided it was finally time for him to settle down somewhere. He was convinced, however, to embark on one last venture by his friend and fellow adventurer, Gundren Rockseeker. The two set off to the western reaches of the Empire to set up a mine in a cave that they had found on their previous adventures. On the journey, however, Hallwinter was kidnapped by goblins and eventually saved by the group that would later be known as The Virtuous VII. Tired from a life of fighting and adventuring, Hallwinter decided to pay this group to carry out the business with Gundren and the mine. He settled down in Phandalin, a small town to the east of the mine, and became the head of the ragtag town guard.Education
