Selanithen (seh-lan-ee-th-en)

Deep in the woods shadowed by mountains, Selanithen sits in quiet and regal contemplation of the stars that wheel above. Here the Court of Countless Stars practices powerful magics and ministers over the Hidden City. It is one of the ancient cities of the elves and has stood, according to the most accurate records, since before the Riddens began. Sillifane the Moondance is said to watch over the city and blesses it with arcane enchantments that hide it from the world. These enchantments are so powerful that not even dragons and their hordes were able to locate the city hidden deep within the forested eaves.   The Court of Countless Stars harnesses immense magical power not only from their patron goddess but also from the leyline nexus that courses across the city. Ancient mechanicsms known only to the Court keep these sources of aetheric current subdued and allow the native elves to enact incredible feats of magic with only a minor margin of fluctuation. As such, the Guild Magi constantly petition the Court for permission to study in their city, but these requests are rarely granted. It is also a place of holy pilgramage.   Centuries ago, the Kingdom of Radeland attempted to take by force what the reticent elves of Selanithen refused to give. To this day, Selanithen remains the only nation to have broken the nose of the Wolf. The Radians retreated and offered battle-honours and riches to the victors, and perhaps wisely, the Court of Countless Stars accepted a truce. Selanithen would not suffer the predation or interference of Radeland again, but a town would be built at the forest's edge and peaceful negotiations for trade and entry into the city could be bartered for. And so today Selanithen sits, majestic and unspoiled by the hands of men, reclusive and reticent, weaving spells of unknown purpose and forbidding scholars and queens alike entry to the Forbidden Library.
