Celestial sap

The Celestial Sap is the lifeblood of Sylgadrig. The tree uses it to transfer nutrients from the roots to the canopy and the leaves.
On the Isle of Sylgadrig, it is forbidden to consume it outside of Droshos, which makes the city disconnected from the more rural parts of Radias.

History & Usage

Everyday use

When consumed by humans, it not only gives them most of the nutrients that a balanced diet provides, but gives them another view of reality which is not shared by those that are not under its influence. To the difference of regular hallucinatory drugs, it gives a common vision to everyone, which gives its aficionados a whole culture of their own. Roughly half of Droshos, usually the ones who can afford to buy it, takes a serving daily.

Reusability & Recycling

There exists a caste of people in Droshos called the Molerats], who dwell in the expansive sewers of the city. At the exits, they sell their "products" for a very low price, the refined feces of the rich. As the oily sap does not mix with water, it floats on top of recipients, making it "harvestable". This trade, legal in Droshos, serves as the cover-up for a black market of illegal sap. It is thus hard to know whether black market sap comes from the sewer or from an illegal tap. Distribution

Trade & Market

The only legal place to buy sap is in Droshos, at the Living Temple. However, there exists a black market in most places outside the city, where it is taken as a recreational drug.
It is definitely shunned to harm Sylgadrig, but there exists other illegal tapping sites outside of the Taproot. It is thought that the Root Priests of some denominations have a part to play in the contraband of the drug.

Law & Regulation

Only people inside Droshos are legally allowed to consume it. However, in the various kingdoms outside the Isle of Sylgadrig, its consumption is sometimes tolerated.

Value

Its fossilized amber is the most valuable material in Veyetraell. The liquid form is also very valuable, as only one drop each hour is needed to enter the alternate reality.

Taste

It tastes very tart, with a tinge of sugar.

Color

It is a bright emerald green.

Common State

It is found as a liquid when flowing, but the amber is the fossilized version.
