Ignifian Magic (Ig-NIF-ee-yun)

Ignifian Magic draws arcane energy from Ignifia which is channeled primarily into destructive and offensive magic.

Manifestation

Ignifian Magic will manifest primarily into destructive magic. Because of the nature of its arcane energy, most users of Ignifian magic are involved in some kind of destructive or violent profession. However, there are other professions that make use of Ignifian magic's affinity with fire. Examples of professions that align with Ignifian magic include:
  • Lumberjacks and Miners
  • Footsoldiers, Battlemages, and Seige Specialists
  • Demolition Experts and Exterminators
  • Bakers and Chefs
When casting spells with Ignifian energy there is often an orange, red, or black manifestation of arcane energy. The manifestation depends on the intensity and purpose of the spell, with the power of the spell affecting how much light is given off by the manifestation of energy.

Orange

Orange light is produced when casting low-level destructive spells, such as embers, small controlled flames, or splintering of a material. Orange is the colour most often used by bakers and chefs to light their ovens so that they can have fine control over cooking temperatures. Artists such as potters will also often use spells that produce orange light in order to fire their clay instead of needing to use a kiln.

Red

Red light is produced when commanding more violent and destructive magic. Spells that produce large open flames, explosions, or complete shattering or disintegration of a material. Red light is commonly seen on the battlefield, as well as in mines and waste disposal sites. Some chemists may use red light-producing spells when trying to evoke more intense reactions.

Black

Black light is produced only by the most powerful, violent, and dangerous spells. By the nature of Ignifian energy, if a caster loses control of their spell it can become far more violent and uncontrolled. Black light is most commonly created by such a loss of control. However, Black light can be wielded by very advanced wizards, often sorcerors or extremely talented mages, in order to cast some of the most powerful and destructive spells in existence. These spells very often come with large sacrifices.

Alignment

The following traits are typical of Ignifian civilizations, however, each will have their own variations and customs. Additionally, these are traditions and beliefs that have developed in [PLANE 2] and have little to no affiliation with what Ignifia, the place itself, is like. People who align themselves with Ignifia can sometimes be viewed by outsiders as 'evil'. It is not unheard of for warmongering Ignifian colonies to use their violent and destructive powers to bully their neighbors into submission. Inside Ignifian colonies it is a happy life if you are strong. They do not see what they do to others as wrong: they usually live in meritocracies, so to them, if people cannot fight back they are not equals.   Some advantages to Ignifian ideologies include:
  • People are rewarded for good deeds and talent
  • Settlements often have powerful armies and are very well defended
  • Freedom - leaders of such colonies found their positions through their overwhelming power and authority, so crime is often swiftly dealt with
  • For the regular person, Ignifian colonies are friendly places and politics rarely affects them.
It is common in Ignifian colonies for people who struggle in life to be accommodated in workhouses. If a person has not shown talent in a certain profession or skill, they are given work performing mundane manual labour. These workhouses are almost always in excellent condition, offer fair wages, and are comfortable for those who work in them. However, for outsiders to the Ignifian way of life, these workhouses are, incorrectly, rumored to be awful, squalid places to work, with workplace injuries and even deaths not at all uncommon.   Some downsides to Ignifian ways of life include:
  • Often they will threaten smaller colonies for resources
  • Politics is all about power. They do not fear fighting back if Eveyan people try to convert them, and they are not interested in changing what they view as the perfect system in their city.
  • Expansion is not about land - they stay inside their own settlements - it is about influence and displaying their power.
