Pux

Description

Pux is a 56 year old Ogre. Most of the humans he works with find his face hideous, but to his fellow Ogres he is actually reasonably attractive, with his deep eye-sockets, firm, expressive wrinkle-lines, clean grey complexion, and full, well-groomed moustache. Since he knows few Ogres however, this does him little good. He is about ten feet tall, but appears shorter due to downward facing posture---the result of many years living with and looking down at humans. Standing in his standard posture, he is closer to a mere eight feet. He keeps his body hair short, the better to fit in with human society, keeping his full moustache as an indulgence to compensate for his silly-feeling, short body hair, since he knows some humans have facial hair.

History

Pux moved to Veteris from his home in the forest when he was 15, excited by the prospect of a thrilling military career. He learned soon that, contrary to the recruitment leaflets he had been so excited by, military life in Veteris consisted of little more than occasionally arresting the usually unresisting accused Praxists. Still, he grew to enjoy the luxuries of Veteris, as well as the respect most citizens had for even non-human military personnel. Eventually, as his blood cooled with age, he decided that he didn’t want excitement anymore, and was transferred to the outpost regulating trade.

Present

Although the occasional unauthorized trader attempts to pass through to Veteris, and he is used to arrest them, for the most part, he has a calm life. He appreciates the chummy atmosphere, and low work-load of the outpost, as well as the abundant free time after work. Usually he prefers morning shifts, when most of the traders who pass through are leaving Veteris rather than attempting to come in, as this is a quick and painless process, requiring only minimal effort, and giving him a good relationship with the traders he most often sees.
