Firearms

The world changed when the first bullet was fired. In Eagos, tinkerers and smiths came upon the right mix of sulphur and brimstone to create a volatile black powder. So far firearms only manage to be flintlock and the most sophisticated type are pepperbox revolvers. True proficiency with firearms is only granted to the artificer class in the unearthed arcana and those that enter into the gunslinger archetype for the fighter authored by Matt Mercer. Other individuals are able to take a feat which symbolizes the arduous training process behind becoming truly proficient in firing and loading firearms.

Utility

As guns become more common they will be misused more and more. While guns are extremely loud and an assassin would much rather used poisons or other quite means of killing quarry, guns are still extremely deadly and send a strong message.

Manufacturing

The process to create a firearm requires several weeks. A character must undergo three skill tests to create the entire firearm. One failure increases the cost of the gun by 25% and two failures in a row loses the entire material cost and the gunsmith must start again with new parts.
Access & Availability
Gunpowder is quite expensive and guns that are durable enough to handle multiple firings are rare, as this technology is very recent in discovery. Despite this, larger cities have begun hiring more notable gunsmiths to create defensive weaponry for their townguard, making firearms more common among town guards than any other part of society.
Complexity
Access to sulphur, charcoal and potassium nitrate are require in order to make black powder and only those skilled in tinkering can experiment adequately to become avid gunsmiths.
Discovery
Gnomish tinkerers were looking to find use for the excess of sulphur found underground near swamp and in the dwarvish mountain cities. Originally used for pyrotechnics they tried to find a more offensive use for it. This led to teams of engineers experimenting with designs to propel various projectiles.
