Vodrant Pillarship

Forged within the Vodranti asteroid yards along the Main Belt, Pillarships are large cylindrical spacecraft divided into three segments. They possess a single massive engine on the rear of the ship, and once prepared to fire, the back segment unfurls, revealing four wings that possess 4 engines on each side to 'aim' the pillar at the target.
Four conduits near the 'barrel' of the pillar, powered by the Ship-Vizier, open a temporary portal in front of the ship. This portal supposedly will open hundreds of miles ahead, but it can vary heavily- in space combat, it will need to be hundreds, if not thousands, of miles. When raiding Venus, the Vodrant Legion needed the portals to open 150-200 miles down in order to prevent the pods from burning up in Venus' thick atmosphere.
Pillarships fire drop-pods through the barrel and from there, into the portal. Standard thrust rockets on the pods take them to their destination, often guided by auxiliary computation intelligences. Each pod carries 3-5 soldiers, with straps and cushioning preventing bruising or cerebral trauma.
