Aniconism

Aniconism is the belief that any sort of depiction of a religion figure or concept is an icon, and that icons are idols to false gods and/or spirits. Radical Anicons who turn to violence are dubbed "Iconoclast", and these religious extremists often engage in violent terrorism if they find that a kirkja fails to "resist temptation". This reign of Iconoclast terror persisted from the 15th century to the end of the third millennium, and still exists in some form today, only lessened by the careful regulation by the Empress and the Yauu.
The Kirkja of the Prophet Ukarr is a hotbed for Aniconic thought, but this is allowed by the Empress in the hopes that this will allow for a "release" of Iconoclast activity, although some suggest this is so that she might direct the Iconoclasts towards "political inconveniences."
