Hill dwarf

Unlike their mountain dwarf cousins, hill dwarves prefer to live in the foothills, where they build houses half-sunken into the earth instead of mountain caverns. They're a bit on the shorter side for their race, and have light to tanned skin; their hair is usually dark, but may be red.
Where mountain dwarves focus on mining and stonework, hill dwarves are a bit more pastoral. They raise herds of goats and sheep on the hillsides, and grow hardy crops like potatoes, onions, and nuts. They're as much craftspeople as their cousins, but their preferred media are wood, clay, and food. Hill dwarf furniture and crockery are held in high regard for their blend of form and function, and gourmets speak highly of their beers, cheeses, hard breads, and cured meats. They are also known as accomplished jewelers and smiths in their own right, with a distinct style compared to mountain dwarves; hill dwarves make their jewelry with a bit more ornamental flourish, and as smiths, they mainly produce iron and copper household goods such as cauldrons and kettles. Being less isolationist than other dwarves, hill dwarves often act as middlemen between mountain dwarf crafters and everyone else.
