Rimwort

Anatomy

Rimwort is takes the form of a small plant, usually no taller than knee height. It maintains a single stem which lists to one side, with all of the leaves of the plant facing away from this direction, giving the plant an appearance of a shell made of leaves. The most distinctive feature of Rimwort lies in its leaves, which curl quite strongly at the edges, giving each leaf a rim.

Genetics and Reproduction

Rimwort spreads in a very unique manner. Despite being more like a shrub, Rimwort is in fact a running plant, growing itself through an interconnected root system to pop shoots out of the ground and continue expanding the larger plant system. Even more, singular stalks of Rimwort can be removed and replanted without much ill effect to the plant. By its nature, Rimwort tends to form groves, but these groves can sometimes form bare spots where no shoots raise from. The reasons for this are varied, and even sometimes just random. These bare spots, however, do tend to accumulate dried and castoff parts. In certain rare cases, these parts can be resuscitated into life, even more rarely by nest-building creatures taking these castoffs to a new area. This shows the two primary methods of reproduction: spread from a single source, or being replanted by an outside force.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Rimwort is primarily used as a medicine. It is ground with a mortar and pestle to form a poultice that is administered orally. Being a common plant, Rimwort has several effects attributed to it. The most prominent effects include reducing pain, staunching bloodloss, treating poisons or venoms, and even calming one's nerves. In actuality, Rimwort acts to slow the consumer's blood flow. For small creatures and even some herbivores, this can be fatal, which protects the plant from consumption. Even in some situations, Rimwort can be fatal for humans, particularly in cases where the dosage is not properly controlled.
