Silverwood

You find a strange looking silverware set displayed on a shelf. At first glance it looks like silver, however closer examination reveals a wood grain pattern. The carving style looks to be of Alfar design. Theo notices your interest in this item and offers his commentary. "Ah the Silverwood cutlery set. Its quite old, roughly eight centuries. Made by the elves you know. This set is not much more than a fancy conversation piece, but they say they also crafted weapons and armor out of the stuff. Imagine a sword made of wood that cuts like steel, and blisters the flesh of unnatural creatures like silver."

Properties

Material Characteristics

The name "silver wood" is mostly self explanatory. It is a natural wood, a kin to oak, with a silvery color.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Despite it's resemblance to oak, Silverwood weighs much less than it's common cousin. It is much harder than normal wood, allowing it to keep it's shape easily in the face of constant wear and tear. Weapons made from Silverwood have the same properties as silver weapons for overcoming resistances.

Geology & Geography

The Silverwood trees are native to northern Aetrus.

History & Usage

History

The history of Silverwood is a tragic one. Once the trees grew in a vast forest in the center of northern Aetrus. Now they are all but extinct. The few that remain are hidden in secret groves, protected by fey guardians. Any items made from this material are likely hundred year old antiques.

Discovery

Silverwood was first discovered by the Anoralfar who were lead by their king Vildoros Maladir to northern Aetrus. They settled in the marshlands of Maldoral and used the Silverwood trees for almost everything from their homes built into the tree tops to their weapons, tables, chairs, and even cutlery.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Items made of Silverwood are relics of a golden age in Anoralfar civilization. They are often sought after by antique collectors.

Refinement

Harvesting and carving Silverwood is a lost art. It is believed that a special process was involved and there are few morals if any who know it.

Distribution

Law & Regulation

In the interest of cultural preservation, it is against the law in northern Aetrus to destroy an item made of Silverwood or to break it down in an attempt to reforge it.
