Rime Steel

A flagon of dwergish design made entirely of dark blue ice sits on a shelf. in spite of the warm weather it shows no sign of melting, in fact it is covered by a thin layer of frost that sparkles in the light like diamonds. "That flagon is made of rime steel." Says Theo. "Comes all the way from the northern lands of Midgard. Its a special type of ice that is as tough as iron and only melts under extreme heat. its the perfect thing for a cool flagon of ale on a hot summer day."

Properties

Material Characteristics

It appears as dark blue opaque ice that sparkles in light as if it were covered in a film of diamond dust. This is due to a thin layer of frost that covers its surface whenever it is exposed to air.

Physical & Chemical Properties

weapons made from Rime steel do cold damage in addition to their normal damage type.    The material is just as hard as iron and half the weight. Armor that is normally made from metal can be made from rime steel, however it is uncomfortable to wear if you are not accustomed to the cold. If the armor normally imposes disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks or has a Strength requirement, the rime steel version of the armor doesn't. Unless you are resistant or immune to cold, any dexterity saves and initiative checks you make are rolled at disadvantage while wearing this armor.

Geology & Geography

The dark blue veins of rime steel are only found running through the depths of ancient glaciers on Midgard.

History & Usage

Discovery

This material was first discovered by the Fjelldwerg of Breenheim as they dug out their homes in the glaciers of the Jernfjell mountains. since then they have used the material almost exclusively instead of conventional metal.

Distribution

Trade & Market

The Dwerg kingdom of Breenheim exports luxury items made from rime steel to other kingdoms. Rime steel flagons and goblets are popular among southern nobles since they keep their beverages nice and cool.
