Spirit Plane

The Spirit Plane is a parallel dimension to the phyiscal world found throughout all of Verden. It is the realm from where all Spirits emerge and a realm shrouded in mystery, as its existence is too alien for mortal minds to grasp or witness safely

Geography

The Spirit Plane has no geography in the sense we understand it, as it is far too separated from the laws of the physical world to hold the same concepts of space or geometry. Artificial rifts to the Spirit Plane are often called "portals" or "gateways" but this description is inaccurate. Rather than teleport you to the Spirit Plane directly, someting that would prove lethal to mortal creatures, it transports you to the limit between the realities, the point where one bleeds into the other most strongly while allowing physical matter to remain mostly intact. This limit is often called "The Veil", "The Boundary" or simply "The Limit". The "thickness" of The Limit varies from region to region, with the Wildlands having the weakest Limit in the world, places where the Limit is weak are often held in a certain level of superstition, since Spirits can leak through these hotspots and cause havoc

Researchers have attempted to gaze into the Spirit Plane directly but few have survived this endeavor, as the exposure to vast quantities of Mojo would tear their bodies and minds apart. Those that survive and are coherent enough to speak or write describe it in very abstract terms like "oceans of thoughts" or "spirals of emotion" that, while certainly poetic, aren't helpful in describing the layout of the Spirit Plane, if such a thing even exists. The descriptions of Spirits are even less helpful, since many outright state they lack the words to describe it or simply refer to it as "home" or "birthplace".

Localized Phenomena

In places where the Limit is thin are prone to outlandish phenomena, impressive and deadly in equal measure, these can be as simple as sudden shifts in the local geography to radical disruptions of gravity, the birth of hideously mutated and powerful animals or the manifestation of a powerful Spirit in the material universe, wether for a limited time or in perpetuity. The length of time these phenomena tend to be short, as the intensive use of energy tends to weaken the Plane's points of entry, allowing local reality to reassert itself.

Fauna & Flora

The plane is the birthplace of all Spirits. The exact number of Spirits is unknown, possibly ranging from the thousands to the hundreds of thousands, but since Spirits require a considerable stream of Mojo to maintain a physical from, only a minuscule percentage of this theoretical number have a tangible effect on Verden. The lack of any tangible information on the Plane makes it impossible to glean any image of an ecology or food chain (or wether or not those concepts are applicable in the first place). Since very little is known about a Spirit's life cycle and unwillingness or inability of the Spirits to talk about their own inner workings don't contribute either.

Natural Resources

The Spirit Plane is the only source of Mojo known to the inhabitants of Verden. What information there is of the Plane seems to indicate that it is composed exclusively of Mojo. Mojo is normally found in a liquid form, at least in the material plane (this fact leading to the name of Sea of Magic). In places where the two realms share the weakest borders Mojo has a tendency to "leak" from one realm to the next. Sometimes minuscule "tears" in reality can produce a constant stream of Mojo that forms lakes or rivers of pure, undiluted magic. These rivers of magic are very rare and thus very coveted by Spirits and sorcerors alike.
