Mother Tree Pinetop
The largest peak of the Stonepine Range, and when it was a living tree the single largest organism to ever exist in Verden. The now petrified Mother Pine stands as a colossal peak of stone needles and fierce monsters, yet travellers risk their lives to reach the deposits of amber found within
Geography
The Mother Pine is the largest of the petrified Yggra Pine trees located in the Grand Hills continent, standing at a height of 9000 kilometers. It is divided into the Base Trunk and Upper Trunk, the Lower and Upper Canopy and the Summit.
The Trunk portion is defined by sheer surfaces with little purchase for cimlbing, though one may find some meager footing in the cracks of the petrified bark and the fissures within it. As one ascends into the Canopy, the floor becomes jagged and uneven as one realized their weight is being supported by the petrified pine needles, while one might have a lot more room to walk upon, the needles are prone to collapsing if too much weight is suddenly placed upon them, and can cause them to crack and collapse to the floor, at this point several hundered meters down below.
Hidden among crevices of the Trunk are deposits of once liquid sap, now turned into glistening amber, this amber is greatly valued due to its rarity and is one of the biggest attractors for travelers across the world
Ecosystem
Ol' Spiney, like the rest of the Stonepine mountains, is noticeably barren when it comes to flora and fauna, due to the petrified wood not being well suited for the growth of plantlife to serve as the basis of the ecosystem. As such, the only life that resides there is hardy, solitary and predatory. Some migratory species nest within the Canopy to mate and raise their offspring, far away from predation, but this entails bringing in food from the nearby area
Natural Resources
The petrified wood and pine needles is a poor construction material on its own, but its real use is as a ingredient for more durable forms of stone used to make strongholds and walls designed to withstand monster attacks. The premiere resource found within the Mother Pine are its near endless reserves of amber, found in either large bubbles or solidifed streams deep within the Trunk. This amber is greatly valued for its apperance and difficulty of acquisition, given the dangers of Stonepine exploration in general, so neighboring settlements have used the amber as a source of revenue for generations, with specialized castes of explorers and climbers risking their lives in order to secure blocks of amber, then to be refined by artisans into jewelry and decoration to be sold to those wlling to buy them.
