Temple

The Church is the most important organization in the town of Verdan. Its main building and meeting place is the temple. The temple overlooks the town from the highest point against the mountain they could build on. This means that its high tower looks down on the entire town and is visible from anywhere in the town. The tower acts as a beacon for the village and a constant reminder of the Church’s presence. The tower and the rest of the temple is covered in intricate designs and siding which make it very impressive to look at. What little bits of metal, gold specifically, can be spared from the more practical uses around town are used to make the tower shine.

The temple’s location was not chosen only for the optics but because it is the spot where the majority of visions take place. When the founder, Rebecca Hall, first traveled to this area she received visions of a grand city built into the mountain-side. After getting these visions she decided to gather people to make this city a reality. Since then, many townsfolk have reported having similar visions from God when they are in or around the temple. For this reason, the location was selected so that priests and other officials of the Church would be able to spend much of their time near the holy site, a cave upon which the church had been built. Priests spend most of their time in the temple. When visions come upon them, they relay them to messengers who deliver the words to the people in the village.

The entrance to the cave is involved in many holy ceremonies that the Church does. By having it enclosed in the temple, the specifics of most of the Church Ceremonies are hidden from the majority of the population. These ceremonies include: delivering the dead to God, lost souls being sent to ask forgiveness, and group vision searches. The temple is also the location that regular meetings are held for the town. This is the time when the priests deliver services to the citizens. They take this time to describe their interpretations of visions that they have had and what they mean for the future of the town.
