Arkabass

The Medium God of Nature, Arkabass

And as Thaa's dagger sank into Arkabass, the god gasped and all light and life were gone from his eyes. His soul broke into a dozen pieces and scattered through the Universe, unable to come together, unable to be again.

Tenets of Faith

Arkabass had followed believed in few but very clear rules. You should hunt only what you what you will eat, you should give back to nature just as much or more than you take from it. You can clear a forest to grow crops, but don't cut away too much and don't forget to honour and thank both the forest and your plants. If you should kill your food with your own hands, make sure that their soul goes on. Pray to the gods that the soul does go on and for them to be fair to it, if nothing else. Do not thank the gods for your food unless they themselves had made it for you; you, too, have worked hard on this food. The gods were doing their job, as were you.

Holidays

A week after the first patch of trees in the vicinity receive their spring blooms, unless it rains or snows or storms, there is to be a festival, a celebration of the life that has come and the death that has passed, both very natural processes. There is to be food on the Festival of the Blooms, as well as sweets and entertainment for the old and young alike. Arkabass was known for loving deserts and the theater and would often laugh the loudest.   During the festival, those who have become children of a certain age, the equivalent of about nine or ten in Humans, are allowed to try their first sips of light wine or a similar alcoholic beverage. The amount they're allowed to drink is increased every year by a finger's worth or so, before the age of seventeen, when they are allowed to drink as much as they'd like but also must suffer the consequences like true adults. It is a test to see what kind of people they are, and the last chance to teach them a lesson or two before they become their true selves at last.

To spread and upkeep life to all the barren places they can.

Personal history

"And why should such a Great God fall in love with, with such a young one? One so below them, one--" Here the Priest interrupted me and shook his head. "'Below them'; that's a such a Trinan word to say. Please don't say it again," told me the old man. "I've seen people from just about everywhere, young man, and one thing stands. Nobody is below you. Besides, it isn't below or above, it's the soul that matters!" he exclaimed this with such a joy that I couldn't help but laugh with him. That was my first laugh since three months prior. "It's the soul, girl! Their souls reached out and clicked and, knowing souls, it would have taken, well, it took death to stop them from colliding with each other like two galaxies and making their own little world."
— The Memoirs of Priest Tr'ano, chapter: "The Years After the Fall."
Arkabass was born on a planet which was half water, half jungle or rain forests. He grew inside of the planet for thousands of Terrarian years before awakening to a lonely world. Even with his daily schedule of helping and maintaining the nature and order around the planet, Ark began to feel lonely after some hundred years, having none who were like him. Try as he might to create a life with the understanding of the world and a mind similar to his own, he simply could not do it.   Having never met anybody truly so mentally advanced, upon first encountering intelligent creatures, who came from a different planet and solar system even, he had managed to scare them by perhaps showing off with his abilities and control over the planet. However, the misunderstanding was minor, and as gods are known to be emotionally unstable or overreactive at times, it was cleared up quite quickly.   An accord struck between the two sides and they took him to outer space, letting him enjoy the growth that being outside of an atmosphere allows gods such as him.   Eventually, he was able to travel as he wished, where he wished and made deals with and aided people, in times of trouble. This had led him to meet Palobayo and, as the two laid eyes on each other, a strong energy pulled them closer, their very powers and energies reacting with each other, spinning together.
It was such a shame that their love was what would bring Palobayo down to their knees.
— The History of the Universe's Heart
Upon Thaapole had burried his knife within Ark's chest and broke their soul to pieces, thus sending it all over The Universe, and upon finding out that Ark was dead and who was to blame, Palobayo lost a bit of themselves to anger, revenge, and pure rage. It is said that they grew in size, that their body became black as a cloudy, moonless night, and it became long and larger than planets and stars.   With this form, they ravaged the homeplanet of the criminal and destroyed the living and dead things alike upon it and, after the sky and the ground had gone red with blood or poison, the god had left one alive. Thaapole, the Murder, was offered a hopeless deal, one that he could never successed in. Leave the planet or die in three days time.   Having left but a wasteland, Palobayo knew that this was hopeless and thus they calmly waited. Thaapole prayed and hope and, having considered how it would benefit him, Nerono saved him in what was practically last second. Palobayo calmed over the following years, alone on this planet, and, having returned to what was nearly their previous form, they deemed this their greatest failiure.   In order to attempt paying back the Universe for their sins, they chose a planet in the solar system and assured that life could grow upon it, no matter what happened. They gave it moons for protection, water and fire for survival and the breath of souls lost for intellegent life.   They stayed not too long and then they wandered off, hiding in plain sight somewhere very far away.   It is unknown if Arkabass will ever return or if the state he is in is truly death or not.
