Gremlin

Gremlin

Andraste's familiar   Gremlin is a bad-tempered magical omen of death. He’s getting very old, but his life is extended because he’s magical. Andraste got him as a chick from her uncle before she left home – he was a rare species of raven only native to their part of the mountain, to remind her of home wherever she was in the world. He’s been with her through everything and they’re as close as she and her companion were, although he’s a grouchy bird so not quite as good company.   He was also the runt of the nest when he was given to her (that’s how they managed to get such a rare breed) and did not grow up to be a particularly majestic creature. The name suits him. He has very beady suspicious eyes, seems to scowl through his beak, and grumbles and croaks instead of cawing. His feathers are always rumpled, and he has a weird bald patch on his head. He also has some difficulty flying without magical aid and spends most of his time perched on Andraste’s antlers, flying only when necessary. He is rather fat, and he does what he wants, really only obeying Andraste when necessary, either out of loyalty or because he was ordered.   He is not fond of his new travelling companions and has taken a particular dislike towards Wynstifer. He is highly intelligent and a good spy though, as well as a good familiar. He’s also a good pickpocket because he loves shiny objects like coins, which is one of the ways that Andraste has supported herself over the years.
