Knyaz of the Karadzic Principality Velizar Makarovich Karadzic (a.k.a. The Black Lord, The Prince of Winter)

The Knyaz of the Karadzic Principality and former military advisor to the Grand Princess, Velizar Makarovich Karadzic is one of the three claimants to the Rurikid throne. He sits on the Throne of Ice, located in his house's city of New Severgrad.

Personal history

The second son of Lord Makarov Sidorovich Karadzic, Velizar had initially trained as a warrior to serve in his brother's Svita guard, as was the Karadzic family tradition. During the War of Five Crowns, House Karadzic had remained independent and took no sides. However, when Velizar's brother Nikolai was poisoned by agents working for Zelimir "The Snake" Siroky, Velizar was placed as head of House Karadzic and sided with his childhood friend Yekaterina Rurik - the daughter of Mladislaw Rurik IV, and claimant to the Rurikid throne. As a reward for his service after the crowning of Yekaterina Rurik, House Karadzic received several land titles, and Velizar was promoted to serve as Master-Of-Arms and direct military advisor to the Grand Princess herself, elevating the status of House Karadzic even further.
In the years leading up to the Magdar War, Velizar had attempted to convince the Grand Princess to form an alliance with the Solaris Empire to assist the Urileth Republics. It was only when Velizar openly declared he would bring his own army against the Magdar with or without the Grand Princess' support that Grand Princess Yekaterina was moved to hold a meeting with the Solaris Empire in Rowarin, forming the Western Pact. This move made Velizar an incredibly controversial political figure, as some praised his willingness to go to war against the Magdar while others called him a warmonger who was simply seeking a war to fight to remain relevant.
Velizar would be placed in command of the 60,000-strong Rurikid army that marched on the Sylnorin mountains. At his recommendation, the Rurikid Principality also made the controversial decision to hire the disgraced Bloodhunter Order. In the Magdar War Velizar would lose two of his sons - Isaak and Lavrentiy - in the early days of the fighting. One notable victory of Velizar's was the Battle of Mirthal Peak, the first victory achieved by Rurikid forces against the Magdar.
When the Eye of Belobog appeared, Velizar personally led his forces at the famous Charge of Yllahana alongside the Lioness Irmgard Alvarado, Orakh Khan, and the Eye of Belobog - slaying one of the vampire lords commanding the Magdar. Throughout the rest of the campaign, Velizar worked closely alongside the Lioness Irmgard Alvarado, combining their forces to retake the bulk of the Sylnorin mountains. When the Grand Princess Yekaterina demanded Velizar withdraw his forces from Urileth, some say Velizar contemplated committing treason by ignoring the his Princess' orders.
After the end of the Magdar War, Velizar faded into relative obscurity until the Spring Palace Coup, when the Rurikid line came to an end. Velizar was able to rally most of the Northlands to his cause, and was the first to declare his claim to the Rurikid throne.

Religious Views

Despite hailing from a land deeply tied to the Rodnoveru faith, Prince Velizar is known to be the most religiously-tolerant of the three rulers vying for control of Gränsland. Under his reign, Prince Velizar granted special protection to Solarian temples established in his lands, preventing them from being attacked and robbed. Prince Velizar's tolerance for Solarians in his lands has generated plenty of controversy, as many Northerners fear the Solar Faith aims to replace their gods with worship of the Sun.
