Irmgard Alvarado

Lioness of the Sun Irmgard Alvarado (a.k.a. The Militant, the Iron Lioness)

The eleventh Lioness of the Sun and the second Holy Empress of the Solaris Empire, Irmgard Alvarado is the first half-elf to hold the title of Lioness of the Sun, and was anointed by the Council of High Priests in the year 480 at the age of 23, making her the second-youngest Lioness in history.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Of common birth, Irmgard was first noticed by her peers as a young child when she experienced vivid visions of the future allowing her to predict the exact day and time a shooting star would streak across the night sky over her village, and predicting a drought that allowed her village to survive a famine that struck the countryside.   She would be delivered to the Council of High Priests in Hellesherz after saving her village from an upyr vampire by burning it alive in a farmhouse and emerging unscathed from the flames and the upyr's necromantic powers.   After undergoing the secret trials of the High Priests to prove her legitimacy and six years of training and service in the great temples of the Empire, during which her powers over the divine strength of the Sun grew stronger and her visions more accurate, Irmgard Alvarado was anointed before the city of Hellesherz and granted the title of Lioness of the Sun.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Under Irmgard's rule the Solaris Empire finally destroyed the last remnants of the Drangian Kaiserreich, the Claws of Frindanth, at the Siege of Essnau in 482.   From 482 to 486, Irmgard financed and oversaw the largest expansion of the Golden Temple at Hellesherz to date, constructing a 500-foot tower bearing the most advanced astronomical clock to date, as well as an observatory, solarium, and prayer room. She also re-instituted the Law of Goodwill, which had been repealed under High Priest Eckhart Hielscher, which gave all Solar temples a moral obligation to provide basic food and shelter to any faithful Solarian in need.   In 487, Irmgard attended the meeting at Rowarin alongside the Grand Princess Yekaterina Rurik and Orakh Khan to form the Western Pact against the Magdar Kingdom. In the following year Irmgard called for a Third Crusade of Light at Hellesherz, and led an army of 40,000 Solarians - eight Holy Legions - into war against the Magdar. She fought on the front lines, and was the first Lioness to ever do so, earning her the nicknames "Irmgard the Militant" and "The Iron Lioness". She would narrowly escape being killed at the Massacre of Drowsy Deep in 495, when her host of 40,000 was ambushed and slaughtered - leaving 30,000 Solarian troops and six Grandmasters of the Blades of the Setting Sun killed.   In 500 Irmgard personally attended to the first victims of the Hollowsoul Curse.

Quotes & Catchphrases
"And so the last of our adversaries has fallen. The dragons thought their reign would be immortal - unfettered by the laws of the world and time. But, even the dragons will one day be forgotten, their stories and legends sequestered in the pages of history, their marks on the land burnt to ash and reformed anew. For there is only one that is truly immortal, and that is the Sun."   "We will ride towards the rising sun without fear, my lady. I just hope your own followers remain true to the battle of light and darkness that awaits us."   "Their betrayal shall not go unanswered. The Sun spreads light and hope among the faithful, but the Sun can also blaze and burn. And the Sun remembers. We remember."
