Erestea

Erestea is one of the major powers in the heartland around lake Myrnen. The country suffered heavy losses during the great conflict known here as the Third Orc War more than a decade ago but also assumed leadership of the Alliance with Ulek. In the end Erestea came out of the conflict politically strengthened and its relations with Ulek much improved. Even thought the alliance dissolved once the orc invaders had been defeated Erestea has maintained it's image as a leader of the human nations, much to the annoyance of the king of Armboth.

Ulek

In the decade since the en of the third Orc war and the dissolution of the Northern Alliance the relations between the two nations have remained positive and close although in latter years the head of the Ulek high council has had long periods of illness leaving her second in command, the Military Commander in Chief Ewald Rieson, in charge. The commander is less positively disposed to the Militarily stronger nation of Erestea and has attempted to reaffirm the countrys Old relations with the Levandar high elves. This has annoyed the Erestean high command who want to maintain their nations strong grip of the northern nations in the face of Armboth.

Structure

The king is the person ultimately in charge of the country but by tradition each duchy has had a reasonably high level of self governance and have also kept some of the governmental structures that they had before the region was subsumed into the realm. The kingship is hereditary.

Duchy of Andalon

Formally the ruling monarch of Erestea also holds the title of Duke of Andalon. In practice however, the region is ruled by the High Chancellor, who deals with the day to day business of the region. The high chancellor heads the council which holds representatives of the courts, merchants, and the aristocracy.

Duchy of Mellren

The duchy of Mellren is a strongly autocratic duchy ruled by the Duke of Mellren. The duke appoints his own replacement from the inner council and the exact method of choice is very secretive.
The economy of duchy is dominated by the goldmining industry which is heavily taxed and controlled by the duke.

Duchy of Hirion

The duchy of Hirion is en essence an elective monarchy although it has been dominated by the Burstein family for several hundred years. When the current duke dies the leaders of the major cities are gathered. Each member is allowed to nominate a candidate for the post and vote for who shall be the next Duke.

• The High Chancellor of Andalon

In the case of a tie the vote of the kings representative is deciding. The King also holds the right to appoint his own candidate and overrule the council should he wish.
