Sweetscent

A small farming town on the far outskirts of Ekavarian territory, Sweetscent's only real claim to fame is the pleasant, sugar-like aroma that arises from the town's major export, Redo's Blossom. A sweet smelling flower which grows particularly well in the region, Redo's Blossom is often used in the production of perfumes made in The City of Feeling, Mafect. While other towns grow the flower, Sweetscent in particular has taken it as a major piece of their culture, residents often placing the plant in small gardens outside their homes to spread the scent throughout the town. The town even hosts an annual festival just before the spring planting in honor of the plant, The Blossom Festival. While not a particularly large festival, everyone does gather together in the town square for a massive feast, with everyone expected to cook and bring some food.

Demographics

The population is made up almost entirely of humans, with maybe a handful of half-elves and halflings living inside the town. A majority of the population of the population are farmers, making up about 2200 farmers. The next large portion of the town are traders, numbering around 100. A handful of people in the town are members of guilds, numbering about another 100 people able to work a skill. The town holds preciously 25 trained fighters who serve as guards. Unemployed and people who don't fit into any of those descriptions make up the remaining 70 or so people.

Government

While technically within the borders of Ekaveria and therefore subject to its laws, Sweetscent is far enough away from any of the major cities to run autonomously, only paying a small yearly tax to the magical kingdom in exchange for protection in the event of a war. The town Leader is a local, with the people referring to him as mayor instead of the usual title of high mage given to Ekaverian Governors. This mayor handles disputes amongst groups, but generally common law is the rule of the land.

Defences

The town has little in the way of defense, not even surrounded by a wall. 25 Soldiers make up the towns standing defense, and usually serves to ward off bandits and small goblin parties. For larger issues the town calls on the Ekavarian city of Mafect for aid, although the far distance from the city means help can take a particularly long time to come. For most problems the guard won't handle the town hopes for wandering Adventurers to come through to solve the issue.

History

The Town is a fairly new, being founded at a major crossroad to Mafect only a generation prior, about 100 years ago. The discovery of Redo's Blossom in the area has attracted particularly fast growth, and while currently small in size the settlement holds the potential to become a major trading center in the future. Since it's inception not many important events have occurred which might effect the general population. The Scarlet War being the last major event the people would be familiar with.

Geography

The town lies at the edge of the plains west of the Maw's tongue, surrounded mostly by open fields and mountains in the far distance. a small forest lies around a river a few miles to the southeast. The river is far enough away the wells, rain, and trade are relied upon for water. Moving farther eastward the ground becomes less flat and turns to hills as one approaches the Tongue.

Natural Resources

The land around the town is fertile, and most of the settlement's resources are in farmed foods. Most farmers have a small patch for growing Redo's Blossom, with the majority of the fields growing food. A small lumber village in the forest a few miles east of the town provides it and nearby villages with lumber for building and carpentry works.
