High King Demous Lasting IV

born first son of High King Demous Lasting III, Demous was only 5 years old when war broke out between the kingdom of Ceyrae and it's neighbor the Rake Theocracy. Only 2 years into that war, his father died at the battle of Vast, and Lasting inherited the title of High King of Ceyrae. Throughout his childhood, the young king was forced to contend with inumerable plots against him in order to gain control of the throne. Yet, he resisted all these attempts and at the age of 16 took up full rule of Ceyrae. His reign lasted for many years, and was considered a time of prosperity after Ceyrae's victory in the Rake war. The prosperous king has now died heirless however, leaving a void of power in the shadow clad kingdom. And so now the nobles houses have begun anew their schemes to gain the throne for themselves.
Demous is best known for his resistance towards assassination, having survived eight separate attempts on his life. Uncharacteristically of Ceyraen nobility, he put a great deal of trust in his personal guard, and each of them served him throughout his entire life. These guards went with him everywhere, and Demous allow them to handle all his matter of safety rather than tend to it himself. Notably amongst the guard was his childhood friend Henry, who went on to become one of only two Auramancers in the country. Henry personally stopped 7 of the would be assassins. The only time henry was not present to protect his king, after he had left on a pilgrimage for a number of months, Demous was forced to guard himself from a group of attackers. It was this attempt when the high king proved his personal might was not limited merely to his guard, and single handedly fought off 3 men trying to stab him while he was sleeping.
