Veler, the Tempest

In all of the history of Vaskeer, there have been many heroes, but only one hero has been legendary. He is the man that defeated the First Apex, the Dark Father. The truth of the story is this.   Veler had been a Dragon Rider sworn in by the Slayers of Banazoth when the Dark Father rose. His comrades did not want to help the people of Vaskeer, who were being slaughtered by the thousands in numbers never seen before in the land in its 200 years. The people of Vaskeer had been stuck in the Blood Age for 200 years, starting from anew when the Wall was erected and the few survivors of the aftermath of the Banazoth fight started their civilizations over again. They had no memory of before and went to slaughtering each other endlessly, feeding the Burn, and sticking in their clans and tribes. He took the legendary Windspear and descended to Vaskeer to help them and was outcast by the other Dragon Riders. Veler fought the Dark Father and lost his dragon in the battle but succeeded. Stranded in the strange land and without his dragon, Veler now had a regular lifespan. He set about trying to teach the people around him how to get along and live off the land and prosper and died a few decades after he saved them from the Dark Father. He married a Soleri woman, whose children started the Vellek tribe. He also named the current of souls that covers the sky as the Burn, as it burns when you get too close. After he died, history changed as people with agendas saw fit, and the Iron Creed was formed in the name of Veler among others. Veler’s arrival ended the Blood Age and started the Storm Age.
Veler fights the Dark Father with his 14-foot long Windspear.   The Iron Creed teaches that Veler was a man of Iron, belonging to House Glore. They teach that the land outside the Wall is destroyed by monsters created by the God of Life Ydall. The God of Death Ethos saved Vaskeer and erected the Wall. But 300 years ago, a monster of terrible size and cunning managed to climb the Wall by killing all his brothers around him and piling them as a ladder against the Wall. The Dark Father crawled over the Wall and started destroying Vaskeer, mainly in the middle. Veler was a man born of the Tempest and the Chosen One of Ethos, bestowed by the Gods power. He rode out to Soleri and slew the beast before it could destroy the Virnach Mountains as it had destroyed all the mountains that used to cover Soleri. Veler slew the beast in an epic battle that lasted for one year, then finally returned to Iron. The Dark Father was slaughtered into thousands of black pieces, which the Creed teaches formed into the Soleri tribesmen that now live in that cursed land. When Veler returned, he spoke with Ethos and gave him the Windspear, which Ethos rose up into the sky and formed the Burn out of. The Burn is Ethos’ godly weapon. It will be the weapon that destroys all monstrous life outside the Wall and lets Iron inhabit it again. The Burn must be charged with souls, so Ethos waits and charges his mighty weapon, and the people of Iron live their lives with the knowledge that when they die, their soul will rise to join in the weapon that will lead to the salvation of their country.   The Vellek tribe hold true to the legend of Veler but keep his truth secret. They know he was a Dragon Rider and just that, but he is the best kind of hero ever for doing what he did, for people he had never met.
