The Sun

The sun. A previously well-known celestial object that hovered high above the clouds on the world and shown life-giving rays of light down on all those beneath it. It was an object of worship, a sign of God, before the world fell to ruin and the Wall was raised.
Over the centuries since the Ivory Wall was raised, as more and more souls clot the sky in the effervescent Burn, the sun has become obscured. Now, in the Ivory Age, the sun has not been seen in its entirety for over two-hundred years, and it has faded to memory. Now, it is only the illumination that exists behind the Burn. It is taught that it is the light of Ydall, and it is evil.
The sun washes out the Burn as it rises. As night fades, so too does the blue and green glow of the Burn. It is transformed into an ugly red welt on a background of faded yellow. The dimming of glow is seen as a negative, attested to by its ugly coloration, and thus the day has slowly transformed into the day of 'darkness' for the people of Vaskeer. They have become nocturnal, living outside during the night because it is brighter and illuminated in harsh green, and sleep during the bogged-down day. Bad things happen during the day.
The sun itself is barely even known anymore, and the time of day is measured instead by the sky as a whole, usually using the color of the Burn as a sign. At night, when the Burn shines brightest, and the mouths of screaming souls can be seen within, that is midnight. When the Burn turns purple, it is dusk. When the Burn turns orange and yellow, it is dawn. When the harsh light behind the Burn is brightest, and the Burn looks most faded, like old blood dried on stained parchment, it is midday.
