The Lost

Monsters that were once beasts or men who have absorbed so many souls that they lose who or what they were. Their body warps and their mind breaks. They often roam endlessly and attack on sight, living to feed on souls as some sort of twisted instinct.
The Lost are either animals or Humans that have absorbed too many souls into their body. Their mind breaks first, causing them to forget who they are as the personality and memories of the other souls invades their own. Then, their body begins to mutate. Limbs begin to form randomly, their muscles bulge and twist, skin breaks and the become malformed, a mess of souls bulging at the skin, trying to break free. They often leak shadows that drip off the holder’s skin, creating a strange mist around them like a cape of souls. Beasts absorbing human souls warps them, forming human limbs or causing some of the beasts bones to grow, such as its skull growing in size and splitting the skin around it. A signature sign of a Lost creature is their eyes. The eyes become pools of black and green, oozing pus and mist. A sign that their mind has snapped and souls control their body. It is impossible to eat the meat of a Lost creature. The soul has destroyed its mind, and then infects its flesh. The flesh becomes black and acrid, horrendous, and virtually impossible to consume. If it is consumed, it infects the eater and causes a disease inside them that quickly spreads to shut down their body functions and kill them, all within a few days. Have to be many and quite dangerous – have many characters who have been affected by a Lost attack or death. Most wild animals are Lost now. Human souls spread through the wild predators like a flame as they fought and killed each other, passing human souls along like tangible power. • Animals become unpredictable and volatile when filled with human souls. Unlike humans, they seem to stick to their natural instincts and stay in packs. • A problem caused by the Lost is that holding human souls increases their life duration, and they rarely die of natural causes, instead being killed by another animal or a human Lost, who then absorbs their soul. Human souls are always spreading across Vaskeer, prevented from rising up into the Burn. • Hard to get rid of because they are so much more dangerous to fight, and everyone wants to defeat them with a ranged final blow, or to have an executor finish them so that they don’t die from madness from absorbing all the souls.
