Siccus (sik-us)

One of the eight temples of Libidina, primordial demon of lust and pride, this wonder of the world is natural yet inherently magical. It is an enormous mesa protruding from the flat desert plains of Arisaema, in the shape of a perfectly circular ring. It is 20 miles wide in diameter, and roughly 63 miles in circumference. The width of the ring is roughly one mile; the center of the ring is hollow, leaving a space with an area of 283 miles at its heart, which is occupied by Arisaema's capital city of Siccaneus and a sprawling oasis that spans a length of eight miles at the very center of the oasis. (The area of the ring is 20.63 miles). Surrounding the temple are between four and five miles of desert in every direction, and then the Sansevieria River. The river forms a rough, lopsided ring around the temple island.   Each of Libidina's temples, scattered throughout the jungles of Canna and Arisaema's deserts alike, is an opulent masterpiece of magical design. However, Siccus, in particular, is unique, not only for its design, but for its history.   In the days of creation, the first of the Arisaeman naga (more formally known as the lesser naga, although this name is resented by said naga) were brought into the world by the demon Libidina themself, before they and the other three primordial demons were sealed away in Hell following negotiation with the four primordial spirits. Each temple is home to a different sub-species, or faction, of naga, and they are listed below, along with where they are located. The temples are listed from smallest to largest.
  1. Amans, birthplace of the hognose naga, located just outside of Port Litore, Arisaema
  2. Laetus, birthplace of the ball python naga, located within the city limits of the city of Laetus, along the coasts of Arisaema
  3. Metus, birthplace of the rattlesnake naga, located underneath the city of Temero, in Arisaema
  4. Byssum, birthplace of the cottonmouth naga, located at the heart of Bysst, Arisaema
  5. Inanis, birthplace of the copperhead naga, formerly located within the city of Inanis, at the banks of the Sansevieria River in Arisaema
  6. Unknown Temple, birthplace of the reticulated python greater naga, located in the jungles of Canna
  7. Unknown Temple, birthplace of the anaconda greater naga, located in the jungles of Canna
  8. Siccus, birthplace of the king cobra naga, located around Siccaneus, Arisaema
The greater naga's temples have long since been destroyed and lost to time; this is why the names and locations of their temples are completely unknown.    Siccus, the largest of the temples, became a gathering place for all naga in the following centuries. After the destruction of Inanis, the leaders of the king cobra faction opened their doors to the copperheads, who, after becoming an established majority in Siccaneus over the course of centuries, were gifted the title and responsibility of being the temple caretakers. While only a few dozen of the old copperhead families remain in Siccaneus, caring for Siccus, the king cobra have long since been exalted by all naga as the rulers of Arisaema.   Arisaema itself is broken into provinces, comprised of each of the temple cities and their surrounding wilderness and outskirt towns.
