Achaea
Geography
Loosely described as a fractured continent, Achaea is made up of several primary landmasses surrounded by smaller island-like landmasses, many of which still retain considerable size. Considerable tectonic activity occurs in the central and eastern sub-regions, where its highest mountain ranges are located, but less so along the western half. Warm sea currents and strong humidity are equally typical of all sub-regions, resulting in warmly temperate conditions and abundant precipitations.
Ecosystem
Due to abundant rainfalls and light, much of Achaea is - or was at some point - covered in sprawling forests, with much of the flatland having been created by human activity. Many of the Achaean forests are dense, temperate rainforests, in no small part due to the relative lack of especially tall mountains and the strong currents surrounding nearly all of its sub-regions, allowing oceanic humidity to penetrate deep in-land and bring moisture over very large areas. A majority of natural dry grasslands are found in Eastern Achaea, while Western Achaea features the greatest amounts of wetlands such as swamps and marshes. Tropical or sub-tropical climates can be found sparsely in the extreme south tip of some southernmost island landmasses.
History
Achaea is considered by many nations - but especially those located on it - as the cradle of human civilization as we know it. The fractured continent is host to most of the major global powers and has seen a majority of significant inventions and advancements throughout human history, but also the lion share of large-scale wars and armed conflicts.
