The Caster
While traditional black powder cannons do exist and are more effective, they are extremely rare. Instead, most nations have produced a similar kind of weapon that accelerates a spell through a series of rings that sit on a wooden frame. Each ring is magically enchanted with acceleration magics allowing for the Magic Missile to be accelerated through the cylinder. The mouth of the Caster is an interchangeable ring with an additional enchantment, such as an element or enlargement spell. Meanwhile, the back of the Caster is an interchangeable cartridge that has a series of Mana Shards loaded onto an internal ring. By using an activation word or action will "cast" Magic Missile from the crystals. As the spell passes through each ring, the enchantments activate, accelerating the spell until it passes through the final ring. Recharging one cartridge takes a ritual that requires the length of a short rest of 2 hours and 30 minutes to replenish all of the Mana Shards within.
- The Blaster is a smaller version of the Caster that rests on the shoulder of the user. This weapon is considered to be a portable siege weapon and delivers a powerful punch and can be used to damage carts or burst through walls and doors made from wood.
- The Blunderbuss variant of the Caster, allows for a more nimble use of the cannon type Caster at the sacrifice of damage and range. However, this type allows for a wider spread down range, making the Blunderbuss excellent for handling groups of enemies.
History
The original Caster was made to be mounted on castle walls and pointed downward as a measure of siege and monster defense. Over time, the Caster has proven its weight in gold while mounted on ships at sea, the backs of horse-drawn carriages, and brought to the front lines by way of the Hand Caster.
