Sever Magic

Death to the fiend who created a spell so evil. It's the same as clipping a bird's wings or tearing out a wolf's fangs. Only those who fear sages or those who wish ill upon the world have the gall to draw upon the darkest of forces to curse the poor fool who falls into their snare.
This is a spell of nightmares for sages. Imagine having your vision and your sense of touch ripped away from you under no accidental circumstance. Or if you're religious imagine one day being so close to your god that you can feel them walking beside you - and then in an instant they vanish so far away that you can't even be sure they existed in the first place. All that's left behind is... emptiness. This spell rips a sage's magic away and destroys their connection to the spiritual world and the energies they are so accustomed to. They are suddenly blind and unable to feel.   Many a sage to fall victim to this spell have fallen into a deep depression. Most never come out of it - not until they take their own lives or succumb to malnutrition. Those who are lucky enough to remain mentally and emotionally stable can live on as ordinary people, but the absence of magic is a never-healing wound.

Preparation

Conditions

In order to cast this spell without fatal repercussion, the perfect conditions must be met. First, a flat, wide-open area is required for the foundation of the spell. It's essential for the sky to be visible so that the caster can begin the ritual at the precise time that the moon hits its peak in the night sky - that means neither fog nor cloud can cover the moon. The spell cannot be cast on a new moon, or on either the winter or summer solstice.   The sigil will vary in size and shape dependent upon the target of the spell. Nearly everything factors in; height, weight, age, time of year, the cycle of the moon, and most importantly: the target's magical affinities. The caster must take all these into account and draw the sigil precisely or the spell will backfire.

Materials

First, of course, the measurements. Precise, precise, precise. Take the measurements three or four times to be sure. Then, before preparing any other ingredient, a potion must be made for the target to drink. It must be ingested at least an hour before the ritual, but no more than six hours in advance. The potion, called Wakeful Dead, is brewed with faila berries and frostbyte flowers. It can be bought in certain stores, or brewed by a thaumaturgist.   For the ink to draw the sigil, a combination of three ingredients is required. A thick paste made from crushed faila berries, the concentrated nectar of the frostbyte flower, and a small dose of the caster's blood. The blood must be mixed last, and it must be given from a wound made by an obsidian knife tempered in the fires of a solar sage's magic.

The Sigil

Not only must the measurements for the sigil be precise, the sigil has to be drawn according to a set of strict rules. First, that the caster has to draw it with their bare hands. They have to start from the center and work their way outwards to avoid smearing the ink, and also to ensure the scale is appropriate.   The preparations are now complete except for one last detail. The caster must finish drawing the seal on the back of the target between their shoulder blades.

The Ritual

Now that the sigil has been drawn, it's time to place the target in the center of the sigil. If the potion was brewed correctly, the target will be unable to use their magic or... do anything else, for that matter. It's meant to inhibit their brain function temporarily so that they can't do much but lay there.**   The victim must lay down on their back in the center of the circle. When the moon is at its peak in the sky, it's time to begin.   For the most precise spell, the caster should stand at the right-hand side of the victim and place their left hand over the victim's heart. With their right hand, the caster must draw in the air the symbols for spirit, magic, and seal. Whilst doing so, they must recite the following incantation:
Magic magicky stuffs that will be in another language and such
The sigil will begin to glow with a dark, red light. Once finished with the incantation, the caster must raise their hand to hover over the victim's heart and a line of light will follow. Begin the second incantation.
Oh, you know. Same as usual, I'll write it later.
At this point, the victim will experience excruciating pain as their magic is forced from their body - and it will only continue to get worse. Very few sages survive the next portion of the ritual, and they're the unlucky ones.   The victim's spiritual aura will become visible to the naked eye - like a soft, shifting light with indescribable colors. As the caster begins the third incantation, this glow will slowly retract from the victim starting from the extremities and moving inward toward their heart. This light will gather in the caster's hand and grow brighter throughout the ritual
More magicky words and crabs.
The caster must repeat the above incantation until the light is fully gone from the victim's body. The symbol on their back will then burn into their skin and stay behind like a tattoo.   Now, the caster must choose to release the magic or keep it for themselves. If they choose to keep it, the magic might overwhelm them and injure or kill them. However if they're strong enough to withstand the flow of power, their own magic will grow exponentially stronger. If they release the magic, it will disperse back into the spirit world.   The ritual is now complete. The victim will likely remain unconscious for multiple days, if they wake up at all.
**The potion is made to paralyze the one who ingests it.

This spell is forbidden by the Council of Magic. It is an offense punishable by death.   Unfortunately, since the spell is such a difficult one to perform, those who are able to perform it are in a league of their own. Only another sage strong enough to be considered an Elder can hope to bring them down, and Elders are few and far between. They make up less than one percent of working sages.
I have been tortured. I've been maimed. I've been left for dead at the bottom of a hundred-foot drop and never, never, have I felt worse pain than that damn spell. I hope to Ellahar the bastard that did this dies a horrible, slow death. If only I still had the strength to send him to hell myself.
