Marcus Tristam

He was the greedy little bastard who refused to change his way and suffered for it. He even turned his own wife, Olivia Tristam so as to not suffer alone.
He and his wife became mostly socially isolated and during this time his wife conceived five sons. Wilhelm, Derek, Sully, Charles and Alexander 
Unfortunately, they didn't stay completely undetected. During a hunt one night Olivia was discovered and captured by Van Helsing of the Helsing family. She was sentenced to burn in the sun.
The death of his wife caused him great sorrow and Marcus shut himself away from the world permanently.
These events lead to the divide of his sons which created the main vampire clans of today. Xavior, Westlin, Donnovan, Wylan and Craig.
After the death of their mother and the isolation of their father they were left without a guide. They split amicably out of disagreement of who should inherit leadership.
It is unknown if Marcus is still alive. The only ones who know the truth are those who chose to stay by his side when he sought isolation. They are still by his side to this day.
Not long after the creation of the five main vampire clans Van Helsing founded the union of hunters called The United Front.

Rumor Has It

Rumors are he is slumbering in a casket deep underground and will one day be awakened again.
The first part of that rumor may be true, however the likelihood of his return is not.
However, his son Wilhelm may be buried within the same grounds. Hidden there by an unknown source around the time he disappeared during the war between his clan and The United Front. The Likelihood of his return is far greater.
Similarly to the disappearance of Marcus, Wilhelm's clan also split over a lack of agreement in who should lead.
