ValRav'n (Va-al-Rav-en) Is a dark land full of myths and monsters. Explorers in this world are a dime a dozen with about a one in twenty chance of actually finding success. Sadly the state of the world forces the poorer population to choose to be content with barely surviving or take a chance to see if they can strike it rich in one of the many forgotten caves that litter the world. Caves and Dungeons are easy to find but few actually hold any bounty. The ones that go looking for fame and fortune often mistake a rich dungeon for an angry mother bear's den. It isn't uncommon for zombies and wraths to stray into the small villages but most places have Clerics and Soldiers so take care of anything if it were to show it's face. Since they are paid by both the town and the government to keep this towns safe, Soldiers and Clerics have little interest in adventuring into the unknown, making them quite content and fairly pompous. Dragons have drifted into the world of legend. They are in every history book but haven't been see or heard of for over two centuries. Their lairs full of gold have been looked for but no one has even managed to find one, or at least lived to tell the tell. Liches and other undead warlords have also went silent for the past hundred or so years. No one is complaining and they massive castles that used to house such fiends have went unexplored, just in case one decides to wake up again. The political structure is loose, to say the least. Though government money is still traded, the only value the currency has is the value of the metal itself and is often melted down to make useful things like tools and weapons. What was once a proud and mighty country fell into disarray after a legendary adventuring group led a rebellion against the king at the time. Once the king was dead, the party also disappeared, thinking they had saved they country. Instead they created a power vacuum that left the elected officials on their own. They soon had ValRav'n bankrupt from trying to fulfil everyone's need just by throwing money at the situation. Some would say it's better this way where a mon can keep all that he earns without having to worry about paying taxes. Others would say that it wasn't so bad paying roughly half of their profits for protection, emergency response and housing. The people's want to independent led them to fall into a new dark age.
