The Battle of Sandpoint

The Party wake in the early hours of Starday morning to the sound of screams. A goblin host is attacking Sandpoint. All around them, buildings are engulfed in flames and they hear a goblin call out “vengeance for Buurg” as it cuts down a commoner. The party rush downstairs to find a group of goblins have already broken into the Green Dragon and are fighting Gowen Anwen, the barkeeper. As they arrive Gowen is stabbed in the stomach. The party dispatch the goblins quickly and Becca, Gowen’s daughter, takes a goblin arrow to the shoulder during the fight. The party are able to stabilize Gowen and move outside. Outside they see Belor Hemlock, the town sheriff, and a group of guardsmen, dispatching a group of goblins. Belor commands the party to hold the southern gate, which has been destroyed, while he moves to secure the mayor. The party defend the gate, defeating a group of goblins, as well as several Hobgoblins and what looks like the leader of the attacking force. During the battle there is a terrible explosion from the direction of the jailhouse. With their leader dead, the remaining goblins break and flee into the Everglades. The party go to the jail to find one wall demolished and all the prisoners freed. After some examination they discover shards of barrels that were filled with black powder. After speaking to Belor they find out the only local with a large enough store of powder to destroy the jailhouse is Titus Scarnetti, Sandpoint’s last remaining lumber mill owner. The party searches the Scarnetti Sawmill and find a collection of invoices from other businesses in town. Among them they find an order of weapons from Jago the blacksmith, one of the prisoners who escaped during the battle, a shipping note for a vessel due to depart Sandpoint later that day, and an order of alchemist’s fire from Ven Vinder. The party had found bottles of the fire on the bodies of the goblins they killed in the battle. After speaking to several suspects around town, the party journey to the town hall to make sure the mayor is alive. They arrive to a crowded building as people from all over town are there to seek assistance. In the mayor’s office they find Titus Scarnetti accusing the Mayor of being ultimately responsible for the attack because she had been using town money to help refugees instead of investing in defences. The players accuse Scarnetti of masterminding the jail bomb, but do not have enough evidence. Badaar and Gregory attempt to intimidate him into a confession but their meagre attempts add fuel to Scarnetti’s claims that the “outsiders” are responsible for the attack. The party once again visit Ven Vinder to find further proof that Scarnetti is guilty. They learn that Scarnetti had not actually picked up his order of 6 cases of Alchemists’s fire this month as he ordered 40 cases the previous month. Using this information the party are able to back Scarnetti into a corner and he demands they and the mayor follow him to his sawmill where he will prove his innocence. On the way, Scarnetti attempts to take mayor Deverin hostage. She is able to free herself and the party collectively work to defeat Scarnetti. Loodachris uses magic to unfasten the buckles of Scarnetti’s armour; Eiyo is able to stun him, and the whole party work together to knock him unconscious, with Gregory delivering the final blow. With the ringleader of the terrorist plot in shackles, the players retire for the rest of the night. They spend the remainder of Starday resting
