Journey to the Underdark

The party assembled to journey into the Underdark around mid-day on the 1st of Messis. They were joined by Eric and Salvatore, a pair of city watch guards attached to their party by Gar Jordan.   Soon after entering the Underdark they followed a passage which lead them to a collection of humanoid statues that looked frozen in terror. They backtracked from the statues fearing they were petrified wanderes and stumbled into a Basidirond nest.   The Basidirond exhaled a cloud of hallucinogenic spores which caused several party members to have vivid hallucinations and take them out of the fight. After leaving the spored area, the party were able to defeat the Basidirond.   Moving deeper into the dark they came across a puddle of dark water. After throwing a stone at it the puddle formed into a humanoid shape and the party were forced to fight a black pudding.   After defeating the pudding, the group rested, before venturing deeper still into the Underdark.   They soon came across a party of Duegar – deep dwarves – who were all wearing collars similar to those wore by the Slaughterer in the Soul Realm. The party was able to remove the collars from all but one of the Duegar – the remaining one was killed.   The freed slaves joined the party and they journeyed deeper.   Before long the sounds of battle reached the party and they came across Gar Jordan and his men locked in combat with another group of enslaved Duegar, as well as a Dragonknight who was also wearing a collar.   The enslaved Dragonknight dealt a terrible blow to Gar, sending him across the room with a wound in his chest. The party rushed in to the cavern to attempt to save Gar. During the battle they were able to remove the collar – which was trapped with acid – from the Dragonknight, whom Badaar recognised as Ser Tomorn the Smith.   With the battle over, Gar took the Duegar with him and exited the Underdark and Tomorn followed the party deeper into the darkness.   After fighting a giant spider’s nest, the party came across a Drow scout party. Using an invisibility potion, Gregory was able to get behind the Drow and deal several devastating blows.   The party kept one of the Drow alive and interrogated him, using magic and intimidation to learn that the Drow were using slaves to build a great tunnel to connect this layer of the underdark, Nar-Voth, with the next level, Sekamina.   Using a map drawn by their prisoner before being executed, the party travelled to the location of the gate. A reconnaissance of the area by an invisible Loodachris revealed dozens of Drow and slaves, including an enslaved Captain Price. Loodachris used magic to obtain the keys to the slave cages and de-collared Price and the nearest guards.   When the battle began, one of the Drow that looked like the leader blew a horn and the Drow immediately began to retreat, with the slaves advancing on the Party and city guard.   Moments later a massive Hydra broke through the floor, killing a group of guards instantly and tearing a fleeing Drow apart with its many heads.   During the ensuing battle, the party worked together to sever the heads of the Hydra and cauterize the wounds so they could not regrow. Graak alone was able to sever five heads. Badaar and Eiyo both severed a pair each.   During the battle, the Hyrda killed Eric, one of the guards that had descended into the Underdark with the party. It picked him up in its jaws and threw his broken body against the wall.   Once the Hydra was finally dead, Badaar used his fire breath to burn the scaffolding keeping the in-progress tunnel upright. The tunnel collapsed and the route to the next level of the Underdark was closed – the city was safe, for now.   The party dissected the hydra for parts they could sell and Eiyo took Eric’s wedding ring to return to his family.   Following the path out of the Underdark the group emerged outside of the city in the cliffs to the south around 8pm in the evening.   The party went their separate ways for the evening.   Eiyo   Eiyo went to visit Gar in the Aervensoar. They discussed payment and gar gave her a note for the bank in the Noble District.   She then visited Vinder and discussed the blank contract she had signed. It was now filled in a language she couldn’t read. She learned that the contract was actually for 50% of all future earnings. She was able to negotiate with Vinder who agreed to let her pay a total of 20,000gp by giving 50% of her earnings until the debt was paid. She would also owe him a “special friend” favour to be redeemed another time.
