Originally, Thornmae was a Kind of Plantae. Then they invented a kind of defensive magic and named it after themselves. Then Starsong got a hold of it, creating the Sword of Stinging.
The Sword’s enchantment was simple; alter the size, shape and weight according to the chosen swordbeast, giving them extra courage, agility, and perceptiveness when required.
However, once news got out, other enchanters thought her framework was a good idea, which resulted in over 300 assorted weapons being created. Only 40 stayed intact after the Rewriting, the rest not up to the new standard of magic.
These 40 weapons changed users many, many, many times. First they were scattered, then a collector \ adventurer smaed Eloe the chivalrous found them. Eloe put ads in every village, then those who were picked by weapons gotta stay and train- this being in the semi-peaceful time in-between the First and Second Shadow Wars, so some of the beasts who had heard things from their parents were eager to join, and they were enough.
The 40 weapons each have their own names, creators and the kinds of beast they preferred, though the beasts who used them changed.
Even centuries after the original users died, the 40 warriors- as they came to be called- remained a group, initiating new beasts when needed. They often looked to Starsong when they needed the right beast, and she was the reason their organization stayed alive.
It also became a tradition for the leader to wield one of Starsong’s creations.
The 40 Swords were one of the ones the Razorcorn Core Rebellion visited, along with several fallen Power Fellowships, the Haven, and the Skyqueen Strikers.
