Phanlow is a country that has been around for roughly a millennium. Human and Elvish nomads journeyed from the Northern continent of Iyaiyas with Dwarven settlers hailing from the country currently known as Pourdalum. Upon the founding of the country under the banner of the Dwarven king Roltar Onyxborn, the country was named Pharaldy, and controlled the area behind the hills currently protected by Dragon’s Keep.
Through the logical progression of time, Pharaldy expanded, slowly encompassing what is known as The Dead Zone, the Feyland and the Miasmic Forest. None of these locations had yet been ravaged by times of war and strife. Around 200 years after the country’s founding, the Dwarven royalty was viscerally disposed of and the Elvish family of Le’Naer took over. Pharaldy then underwent a strict change in government – laws were enforced and humans and dwarves alike became slaves in masse.
The current ruler at the time, Yarelven Le’Naer, ushered a new age by turning the country into a large aggressor to the nearby countries known currently as Morigesh and Pourdalum. Pharaldy went to war originally with Pourdalum, referred in history books as the 100-year war, and pushed through their forces. Pharaldy forces eradicated citizens and soldiers alike, leaving nothing but empty habitations behind. The Pouraldum forces requested the assistance of the tiefling forces from Morigesh (previously a part of Zaizal).
With the introduction of Morigesh’s (Zaizal’s) forces into the fray, the Pharaldy armies were faced by a war on two fronts. For several years, Morigesh’s forces were unable to effectively push through the Pharaldy front line, however, development of smithing techniques and the discovery of adamantine allowed the Morigeshan armies to perform a blitzkrieg, proving very effective. The remainder of the 100-year war put Pharaldy on the defensive, finally coming to a loss and becoming trapped behind the hills in the country.
The Le’Naer family remained in power throughout the next 300 years until their slaves uprooted the entire country, dethroning the Le’Naer family and executing every single one. The country was in anarchy for a whole year until the human population seated their first king – Virael Pholsus. The kingdom rapidly established a new government and reigned under the new banner of Phanlow, banning slavery and promoting mutually beneficial laws, though prejudice against elves remained for roughly 200 years.
Through amassing warriors, domestication of wyverns and the creation of an airship, the country ignited another war against Morigesh (which had split from Zaizal many years prior). The war, known as the Reclamation War, served to reclaim the land seized by Zaizal (now Morigesh). With the new technology and a small corps of mages, the armies under direct control of Virael decimated the enemy and forced them back toward the current Eastern border of Phanlow. One final, large-scaled battle occurred that lasted several months.
At the end of the battle, Morigesh relinquished claim seeing the massive amount of destruction Phanlow would go to and offered a peace treaty, which Phanlow agreed to. The effects of the final battle linger prominently as it was the cause of the Mosphoran Wastes – A barren wasteland devoid of any natural life. The war lasted a total of 5 years.
King Virael died shortly after the end of the war at age 63 and was succeeded by his son, Kilian. The Pholsus family remained in power through Just dominion over their lands, only recently having received backlash at the establishment of The Dead Zone, which was an area of fertile land rendered inert and controlled by an ancient void dragon referred to as Gygax. Few have seen the dragon that are still alive today, and even fewer know of the dragon’s color and name. The information is primarily held within the Royal Familiy and the highest-ranking nobles. The current king of Phanlow has been in rule for 94 years despite being a human.
