A Tale in the Round -- A Non-Dinosaur Tale

June 27, 2020   We (Avon, Aretemis and I) find that if Transmutation magic will stop the doppleganers from transforming or transform them back. We realize the Water Breathe potions are transformation spell.   We return to Navere and Peppermint...still in the bath.   We discus the info and make a list of our possible suspects. The Druid Council and Avon. Avon drinks one of our 9 potions to make sure, then off to the council we go.   Council of Druids   Female Halfling Ranger - Male Dwarf of Moon Clan Druid - white haired, unkempt - Galdrak Moonfist Elderly Male Half Elf Druid - Human Female Druid -   The Dwarf demands the guards take Navere into custody, and refused to be questioned. The Ranger agrees to send word to Charadus to confirm that Navere was cleared and that we are officially working on finding out who is responsible for Jadinca's murder. The dwarf protests vehimently, but the rest of the council back us up. The Ranger tells the guard to take him and restrain him.   We discus our questions. (IRL, this took for fucking EVER)   The dwarf, a white haired man, is now literally frothing at the mouth with anger. He is very unkempt and unclean. We ask him what he as a druid would normally do? He says that he normally take care of the trees. It is suggested he cast a spell to show us....I think this is a VERY bad idea.... He responds "If it's a spell you want...I can cast a spell!" (a map appears dun dun dun)   Three large boars appear...We kill the boars and he stands down. Avon explains the whole thing of what is going on to him. He suggests that if transmutaion works, maybe there is a ritual that would work against the whole community. He will do research to see if there is such a thing.   We give them all potions - the Ranger first - her skin starts to shift, she is grabbed. The doppleganger just stands there....it tells Avon "there are many" when asked how many dopplegangers there are. I am so lost and confused as we all stand here with Avon talking to it, it answering telepathically. The uncomfortable silence is awkward...then it get's worse. It tells us it wants one of us. I uncomfortably shift in my armour, it talks in my head "You can find a new family. You don't have to be alone." I explain what it's telling me and explain I don't need one, I'm good, I have my party. "Your family are gone, you don't have to be alone." I do not like this thing. Galdrak killed the doppleganger with a hammer.   We start the work on the ritual, something goes wrong and there is an explosion, Galdrak was "injured" and turned into a boar. The rest of the druids explain that he'll be out of commision for a bit but will be fine. The council notices that there was an intentional mistake that caused the explosion, the potion was wrong or a measurement etc. It's determined it was deliberate and not an amature's mistake. So...mexican standoff of how this happened...it's suggested that WE should drink a potion...arguments arise..."Give me a damn potion!" I pop the top off and drink it.   No one else will drink one....this discusion goes back and forth and around and around.....   We send a cenotaur to go get the alchemest and transmutation ingredients...but will need "something..hint hint Avon" will need to "pay" her.   She comes, out of breath from tunning, she has a huge backpack of supplies, not knowing what to bring. She hands over 8 potions. Avon hands one to Peppermint, Navere and Artemis. Artemis rolls her eyes but drinks it. Peppermint doesn't know how, so he "injests it" (showered ish) ....Navere totally refused to drink it. We decide Navere and Connor must spend the night in the middle of the room to be safe. Navere is seeming very suspicious to me....he refused to drink a potion as a wast of resources...we still have 9 left. Navere keeps reiterating he spent all day in the stocks, he's safe....rufuses to drink, and refuses to go in middle of room....   Till next time Gadget...NEXT TIME!!!

The Search for Knowledge

May 23 Navere is freed from the stocks. He decides to go have a shower from his horrible days remenants, Peppermint stays with him.   Avon, Artemis and I go to start to look for a book about the dopplegangers. We start with the druids. They tell us they have a lot of knowledge on the subject and tell us about and direct us to their library.   The Library It is one of the largest "buildings" in the town. I still can't believe the size and magesty of these beautiful trees and the Druids use of them. We enter the trunk of the Ironwood tree, past the leering guards. Avon informs them to let us know immediately if any of our friends shows up alone, so that we can "deal" with them.   The tree has been grown especially to be this building. It is a hollowed out room and the shelves are literally grown into the tree. In the centre there is a mosaic/ sculpture of sorts, of branches intertwined, like vines and roots to a tree of sorts. Ther e is a Teal orb in the midst of it.   A spectacle wearing (I assume from all of his reading), middle aged dwarf, with white hair and beard, with the slightest blue tinge, sits at the desk. He introcuces himself as Balmir Moon-Hammer. ( I know that the Moon clan are an exile clan from the forest. Most of them are druids. I share this quick tidbit with my allies)   We explain why we are here to him and what we are searching for. Balmir directs us to the orb and tells us to approach it and to ask it for what we wish to know about or what particularily we are searching for information on. Avon approaches and asks for knowledge on the identification or a way to stop the dopplegangers from shifting. There are flashes and sparks of teal light and the tree (middle mosaic thing) moves. It moves up, as if it was going to another higher part of the tree, in comes back down and it leaves three books for us. We each take a book. They seem to be made of metal and are locked. Avon inquires how to get them unlocked. Balmir tells us to open them he needs permission from the Arch Druid. Avon attempts to persuade him to give us permission to read them. He tells of the recent events, about Jadinca's death and that we are trying to acquire this knowledge to find her killer and to protect the people of the town from all of the dopplegangers and the troubles they seem to be causing. (success) Balmir reluctantly unlocks the books for us, and explains they can not leave the library. Avon asks if we are allowed to take notes on our findings, stating that we would indeed let him read them to approve if we can take that knowledge with us. He says it's fine as long as the books don't leave.   What we want to find: How to identify the dopplegangers, how to stop them from shifting.   ~~~~~~

Accusations

We are woken in the middle of the night as some Cyclops guards drag Navere out of our quarters. He is being accused of murdering Jadinca. How could he have done that, we were all here asleep, in my hazy state of half slumber, I feel so confused by this accusation.   Peppermint and I speak to Charadus, Molgnar's brother. He is an accountant/bookkeeper type. You know, small, scrawny, lanky, looks like a strong wind would blow him over. Doesn't really look like he'd ever make for the "muscle" guy of anything, except maybe a children's gathering...and only then because of his height. He is worried about taking care of things for his brother and taking over if he does not recover, though things are looking favourable to Molgnar's recovery. We ask him some questions about his knowledge of Jadinca and her assocaations with other people and aquaintences around town. He has no clue or idea of anyone that didn't like Jadinka. He admittedly hasn't spent much time with or around her. He says he will support us where he can.   We return to the square where Navere awaits us. We cathch up on each other's discoveries. Then as Artemis arrives, a shadowy figure approaches Artemis...fight ensues. it goes down before we even get there, Artemis made quick work of "it". It's determined it's a doppleganger.   We take it's lifeless corpse as evidence to Charadus, to show the proof. He believes us, but also informs us that his brother has been killed by "Artemis" though he knows it wasn't actually him. Avon is visibly angry. I am also quite upset with this. I do not appreciate my comrades being framed for murder.   Charadus is presented with the headress of his brother, and become the leader of the Cyclops, and thus the council as the town elder/leader. He pardons both Navere and Atemis of the crimes they have been falsly charged with, and hence the trial is thankfully cancelled.   We need to deal with this doppleganger problem, I don't see it getting any better anytime soon.......

Aftermath

We eent to talk to Chief Molgnar, chief of the Centaurs. He was greatly wounded in the battle against the calvery. He is at a medical tent where the druids are trying to heal him. He has a giant axe imbeded in his neck, he is bleeding profusely. Artemis heals him by cutting off the handle and stopping the bleeding. Avon tells him that he will defend the his people. He makes eye contact and grasps Avon's arm in understanding.   We then search out the leader of the Druids, Jadenka, she is slightly injured, an arrow to the sholder, they are cauterizing it when we arrive. He offers a choice of equipment or Ironwood for the warriors.   I am working on blacksmithing these items over next 8 days Rapier and Pot rune from Avon Bow and rune from Artemis Armour and rune Navir Temple sword and rune Peppermint   Spend a day healing for reputation - gain 1 reputation   Summoned by Jadenka. The refugees are not happy about being conscripted. We are to hold a rally to drum up conscription for the fight against the Orcs. We hold a rally around 2nd breakfast near 11am, sunshine and balloons. A lot of people gather, majority of them are Elves. Avon makes his speach, a moving speech. Navere does his religous "sermon" and NAILS it. I explain my origin story and how I want to help protect the people and their homes, families and friends. That I want to find a new place to have as a home, with new family and friends myself. I ask them to join me in the fight to protect it all. ( My speech goes really well) We succeed and gain 600 people for our army!!

Defend Ironwood Shores - Giant's Battle

Morag summuns us about the oncoming onslaught. There are giants coming from the south of the pass, a navy coming by sea, and orc calvery. We decide to have the druids fight the navy and the cenotars fight the orcish cavelry, we hit the cliffs by the pass to fight the oncoming giants. As the first Giant approaches I take a swing, and hit him. After he hits me with his greataxe, I tumble behind him and take a couple swings with my axe, slicing open his chest. The second Giant approaches, and we take him down a little slower, the third Giant doesn't take that much longer. Then there's a small break before a Hill Giant approaches. he is much harder to hit, he's an ugly brute, we swing and chop...a few of us stumble a few times but with some speedy heals we win the fight!   He had some gems and a very nice set of half plate with an armor potency ruin, everyone said it was ok, if I took that. It feels quite nice, a bit heavy though, miss the lightness of my studded leather a bit.   In general it was a good day defending the city!!

Busy as a Bee: The Day I Got My New Greataxe

So today was our first day back in town. I decided to take a couple days to smith my potentcy rune to my Greataxe. I was successful and it is now better than ever. Going to go test it out with the others when I am done. Apparently we are going hunting some wasps. I can't believe how awsome I did on that first wasp...killed it with a defensive swing and three more...I killed that wasp!!! When we found three more I managed to take out 2 at once. We found the remanents of a camp and there were some larva feeding on some corpes that were about a month old. Chopped them to bits, no way I'm gonna let them live to turn into those horse sized monsters! We searched the camp and Navere found this amazing staff, it was shiney! We managed to head back to town without incident. Whew, home safe again! What a day, what a feeling of enjoyment , pleasure and accomplishment!   I LOVE this axe and it's damage! It was well worth the two days I spent working on it.
