Gnome

Gnomes are a small humanoid race, distantly related to other hominids like Elves and Humans, who are famed for their inventiveness and dedication.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Gnomes are generally small bipedal humanoids, with comparatively larger skulls and lighter bones than the average Human or Halfling. Most are tailless, though a sizable population is born with vestigial tails.

Genetics and Reproduction

Gnomes reproduce sexually, with a far shorter gestation period than other humanoids. Pregnancy usually takes anywhere from five and a half months to seven months to complete, though more than one child at a time is extremely rare.

Growth Rate & Stages

From birth, Gnomes grow quickly for the first ten years of their lives, and reach their full size a few years later. Sexual maturity, however, isn't reached until nearly sixty.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Gnomes are omnivorous.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Gnomes have a proportionally larger skull, and thus a larger brain, than most other hominids.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Gnomes are found in small pockets throughout the continents, being only the fifth most populous species in Ustos. Most are adapted to urban life, and very few are found outside of the comforts of a town or village.

Average Intelligence

Gnomes are extremely intelligent, adept at intuitive puzzle-solving and strategies, though this may show itself very differently around the spectrum.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While having fairly average hearing compared to other hominids, Gnomes can process frequencies anywhere from 5Hz to 5.000Hz. Their range of sight, on the other hand, is vastly superior to Humans and others, with a visual field of 270 degrees. They also possess tapeta lucida, as well as a semi-vestigial nictitating membrane.   Few Gnomes possess the innate ability for magic, though any are capable of manipulating it given enough experimentation.
